I'm with everyone who says they're both great options, and that over time it'll be your lenses that you're really buying into. But even there, they're very similar.
I owned quite a few lenses for my D200, so switching wasn't an option, but I have to say I LOVE my D7100. :)
As for ISO, I'll shoot up to 1600 without thinking about it, and I find myself using that reasonably frequently, and I'll go up to 3200 without hesitating much, either. Here's one ISO 1600 example that I don't think took any noise reduction:
Edited to add: I just poked through my recent photos, and I used ISO 3200 and 6400 to shoot volleyball and basketball in dim gyms.

I had spent hours upon hours on research over the last few months.. reading about things and then putting cameras in your hands are totally two different things..
Actually, I will be moving to a totally, completely different brand all together and I guess this will put me in my own world here on DPC perhaps.
Considering that I spent less than $200 on glass and used glass at that and that included small things that I purchased on Ebay, Like my remote, flashes and ect..I had not really invested in the glass.. If I did, I would stick with Nikon..
The final answer will be though.....
Pentax.... I fell in love with the K-50. I also tried the K-5 IIs, I liked it but found a few things I didn't care about it but the K-50, man was I impressed with that, yes I still had to mess with the menu to change things, but it was easy for me I had that down in 5 minutes and that is important to me.. it took me 30 minutes just to figure out how to maneuver around the D7100, That is a learning curve camera which would have been ok.... everything was just there that I wanted for the Pentax.... it will do everything that I need it to do without the hefty price tag included.
Plus, having those telephoto lenses weather proof too I was hands down sold. It was also cold proof, for shooting my eagles in the winter time, that is a huge deal for me considering we get down to 10-20 below some days.....The ISO which I had the original question on was there as well...by far, this camera was just phenomenal and it was at a huge advantage.. If I go white water rafting, I can take it with me and not have it bothered by the water because its weather proofed ( i knew the other cameras were as well) I spent another 2 hrs just today with the camera in hands again comparing for the last time between all cameras and I will not buy something that I am not comfortable having it in hand.. I think that when you put something in your hands, you will know right away if you love it or hate it..you just know.. I just loved how this Pentax handled, how it performed and I made sure I tried all of the lenses I was going to use on the camera with the SD card in it.. it fit my needs so much easier and with the prices as well, I am so there.
I will be able to purchase all of my lenses that I need for the prices that I was going to spend on the Nikon..
The other two cameras are great cameras no questions and I have nothing against them, but it just is not for me as I had thought they might be. The 7100 was way bigger in my hands than my D60 and it was very hard for me to handle. I did not like that.. With having surgery on my hands and wrist, that is a huge factor in a camera on the ease of handing and size of the body of the camera.
The local camera guys were awesome about spending that much time with me making sure I had what I needed to make a final decision.
They allowed me to use the same comparable lenses on each one, with the fast SD card that was supposed to be there..there will always be something more advantage to one camera from the other. Overall, I am going with what I felt was the best in my hands...
Goodbye Nikon, Hello Pentax!
Maybe by Christmas time though LOL

That's a good choice, as long as you're not factoring in the ability to swap gear with other DPCers on GTGs :-) You'll be very happy with the Pentax, that's quality gear. |

Ok. A couple of notes.
You're actually East of me.. :D
Weatherproof does not equal waterproof. Light rain-yes, heavy rain-maybe, Salt-water spray-maybe, fresh water waves-maybe, salt water waves-no, submersion-no..

Awesome
For sure! I am not really a water person so submersion is not one of things I wish for LOL
but it is nice to know I can have this camera out in the winter when its snowing out/light rain when I am watching the eagles or trying for some lighting pics and not have to worry about covering up my camera or proof it, but I do have a camera bag that is specially made for waterproofing it just incase.. |

Congrats! Have fun shooting with your new gear!
As for where people on DPC live - all over the world. In fact, one of the few I've met in person lives in Seattle. :) |
