Hey guys!!

Having some downtime at the hotel and I am loving every moment!!
wildlife is amazing and we saw wild mustangs yesterday... they saw some of my pictures and they wanted to use four of them for their new brochure!!! I was just stoked when they said that! Had a few backlit poses and one pose where the mustangs came right by our van and stopped lolol pretty awesome

My ND filter did NOT make it before I left though but I just had the basic mutli-coated one..
it has came in handy though but I really wish I could have experienced that graduated one on my landscapes...
over 1k pics taken but its been fun... my daughter has confiscated my camera too now so I have been teaching her how to use my Dlsr lolol

hope things are well here !! I wish I could enter more than one thing for my free study I cant choose hahahhaha

Remember to sign royalty contracts in DPC's name.. hehe..

Enjoy. When it comes to wildlife you cannot take too many images, so let her rip!

Wow that's great, Julie! Make sure you get a few copies of the brochure once it's printed up. Are they going to credit you as the photog too?

Just some unsolicited advice...don't overdo the pp on the images, submit them as large jpgs and don't sharpen them. Their GD or whoever is putting the brochure together will need to manipulate the sizes, and sharpening halos vould appear.

Yes, they will be not only giving me photo credit and copies of the brochure when its finished, but they wanted a testimony review as well to go along with them..
They asked me if I could send them my unedited photos in JPG and RAW, no water marks.. that way they can do what they want to do with them.... kinda exciting!!!

These are the two of the four that they really wanted..

Actually, the other two are part of the younger babies and then I had a whole picture of the heard... but the white one is my favorite one of them all just because its backlit..

I am really getting into the backlit and the reflection kind of photos

are they paying you or giving you something like a free night at the hotel?

Whatever the compensation (if any), be sure to have them sign a written license to use the images (and specify the type/duration of use) -- the pictures should remain yours to do with what you want.

If they want to own the pictures (own the copyright or have exclusive use) the going rate should be upwards of $1000/ea.

Very good work, Julie! And who knows, maybe backlighting and reflections will evolve into your trademark style :-)

Glad that they're being very specific about them wanting the images sftc (straight from the camera). I would follow GeneralE's advice re licensing. And when you do get the printed brochures, think about framing one or having it out for people to look at...and stash the others away in a safe place, so when the first one gets a little tattered you can replace it. Learned to do that when I was a copywriter and my ads would run in publications.

Go Julie! Happy for you.

Thanks all:)) it is exciting...

I do not have anything for licensing stuff, the contracts , and no I am not having them pay me at all..

this is not a serious business for me and I really have no plans on becoming a pro but just a serious newbie who is very addicted
I am sure if I was in business I would have all that in place but I don't..

They knew I was serious about photographing these horses and they knew it was a childhood dream come true and they gave us "extra time" more than what they should have just to spend time with these horses.. it was supposed to be a 2 hr tour but we spent almost 4 hrs sooo it was awesome for me to have that time in the field.. it took one hr just to find the band. For me, that was perfect compensation enough and the guide made sure I had all the pics I wanted :))

As for the rest of the business I have to learn way more than what I know to pull off money numbers like that..maybe when I get out of the remedial course of learning things lolol

It doesn't take much to write up a simple license -- just do it yourself. Do it not only for yourself, but for anyone else who ever wants to be compensated for their art. The license doesn't require them to pay you, but just makes it clear that you retain the copyright. Otherwise, you *could* (technically, if not likely) find yourself unable to (legally) post the images here for us to see ...

aaaa ok... is there a sample of one of these contracts that I could follow?

where would I find one?

if she just turns over he images and doesn't sign anything, they dont have any proof they now own the copyright and wouldn't be able to restrict her usage.

I was able to type something up letting them know what was allowed and not.. I basically gave them rights to edit to their needs for advertising prints, that I still own the original copy right and they can use the photos to whatever their needs are.. I gave a start date of when I gave permission for the photos and the end date which there was none..
I put my name, phone number and also requested in this little letter that they are to send me any promotional advertising when they use my photo whether it be posters, post cards, brochures or what not, my phone number and address was added to this as well..

I think I covered everything, and I so appreciate the guidance for this.. I really never thought about something like this at all :-))
But they have the photos and if they want to edit them they will have to request the RAW Format file. Otherwise, I just did basic editing and left it in the size that I downloaded them..
