I just uploaded a photo for the 160 Pixel challenge, and when I got to the details page, my camera, date, aperture, shutter speed and ISO were all already populated correctly.

I noticed that a few days ago too when I uploaded my outtake for the Selfie! Challenge. I think it only auto-populates when the image hasn't been edited (or at least that was the case with my outtake image) but of course I could be wrong.

That happens if the EXIF data are embedded in the JPG. Save-for-web gives the option to strip the EXIF, which I do as a matter of course.

Weird. I always do save for web, and didn't change anything, and this is the first I've seen it. I like it.

Why???

Ditching the EXIF leaves more room for photo data within the 300kb limit.

Also, it foils exif-peppers during voting who seek clues to the identity of the photographer...

Try it. Add as much custom info as possible and include that with your entries for the next week or so and see if it makes a difference. For maximum effect, limit the files to 200kb.

I was only curious, but like Larry said...I've never clicking on anything to actually "choose" to strip the data...guess it's there by default...

I find that the EXIF data (from my camera at least) adds about 6-8KB to the final file size.

Hey waitaminute....I've noticed that whenever Ryan used to upload pics (he is Magnumphotography here) the fields would all be auto-filled in for him. But then he shoots Canon.

I shoot Nikon and have to enter all the info myself. No auto-filling the fields for me :-( Unless I happen to be shooting Canon for some weird reason.

We both use save for web and so far as I know I've never stripped the EXIF data - first I don't know how and second, I imagine it would send up warning flags to SC of suspicious activity, would it not?

I changed my 'save for web' option so it doesn't' strip the info. I shoot Nikon. I noticed that when I switched to PSCC my EXIF data was gone. It took me a couple of weeks to look into it, but it was an easy fix. (Most of my images are quite a bit below the 300 kb limit, so I guess I like seeing the info,)

Having that info on other's images is part of how I try to learn.

Heck NO! We couldn't care less about EXIF on the 800-pixel image, just on the ORIGINAL. The EXIF on the small image could never be used to validate, because it shows the dates you edited as a date changed and invalidates the whole ball of wax. That's why people get in trouble so much when they edit JPGs and then thoughtlessly save that file, overwriting the original. There's a BENEFIT, from our POV, of stripping the EXIF because it can be used by voters to identify shooters, if they want to bother. Things are just more anonymous sans-EXIF :-)

Ah ha. So they knew it was me and that's why my photos score low. I'm sure that's it. And if I strip the data my scores will go up. Fabulous news...

(And I'm just kidding, I get what you're saying. I'm just not sinister creative enough to have thought of that.
