I just spoke with a saleperson at a major camera retailer and the reason he gave for the backorder situation is the Athens Olympics. Apparently all the sports photogs are gobbling up all the 1D MII that Canon can produce, so that they can use it at the Olympics. Makes perfect sense given the performance of that camera. There's going to be a lot of big white lenses at the Olympics...

Woo hoo placed my order for the 1D MII, unfortunately I won't get it before the end of July :( Blame it on the Olympics :P
