Here's the image I spoke about earlier - flash on first curtain with a 2 second hand held exposure.

Different isn't it ?

Very different. I was wondering about doing sort of the same thing before I even posted this topic. The difference is, I wanted to put it on a tripod and only get the movement of the crowd, not of my hand.

Ok, well... I have some bad news and some good news. The bad news is; there may be no protest due to lack of support. The seniors have been scared by the admin saying they will not get diplomas if they participate ...

I suggest you relay this information to your Congressional representative and Senators immediately, with a copy to the editor of the Denver daily and any TV stations you can find addresses for.

Being I still have a year left at this school, I think I am going to just try to let it die down as much as possible. I do have a meeting with the principal sometime next week to discuss the issue of censorship. But other than that, I do not want to cause more trouble. I have fixed the website to have a journalistic approach, so she won't be as pissed off, but I am also not giving in. Plus, I believe very strongly in this, but I do also see her side where some of my clipart may have put it overboard. But now the walk-out is back on, so I will get some good pics and post them for everyone to see.

God, what has happened to public schools. Liberal teachers in our education system are teaching kids how to put condoms on cucumbers and how to hate conservative values, instead of just teaching the kids about history, math, and science. Unbelievable.

Who said anything about conservative values...he said his school was protesting a corrupt administration. You don't even know who organized it...could be the kids who want to do it on their own without school official approval. I know conservatives who hate the current administration too...they don't think Bush and his gang are conservatives or have any kind of values other than the bottom line.

I will say, I am a conservative, but without those "liberal teachers," students would not truly know their rights. This protest, however, was not organized by teachers, only by former and current students. But as I said before (then kinda carried this off track again), this topic was not meant for a debate on laws and ethics and anything else possibly related, only for discussion on photography at protests.

You should definitely know your rights as a photographer and citizen though. You might also want to carry a spare (disposable) camera, especially in case you need to document someone (illegally) confiscating your "real" camera.

Another trick I've heard of is to carry a roll of cheap film in your bag. If anyone tries to stop you from taking pictures you can turn around for a second as if you're messing with the camera (rewinding), then hand them the film with appropriately protestations. You can even strip the film out of the cannister for them, just in case they decide to develop it. If you're clever about it they'll not realize the photos are still on the memory card ...

I may just try some of that... It is definately on now. 12:12pm MST (Colorado). The good thing is, I was planning on going to denver for my brother's grad., so I am excused all day. This means, I can set up for the crowd before everyone gets there (since I won't be at school. I will have pics up in a day or so!

Have an excuse ready why you didn't go to school when the trip was canceled. If your parents are supportive, take one along with you ... then if asked why you aren't in school or Denver they can reply "because I thought this was more important."

My parents know I am going to go to this. They don't care, they say it is my choice. It will be interesting to see what happens tonight, there is a school board meeting that we are going to go to.

*Update: Officially, there will be no walk-out/protest. After the school board meeting tonight, the school board voted unanimously to not renew the principal's contract. WE WON!

Check out the article in our local paper, it will probably be in the Pueblo Chiefton tomorrow as well.
