I am hoping someone here may be able to help. I have a Nikon D7100 it is about a year old and it worked fine last night. This morning (away on holidays) the green sd reader light stays on but nothing else works on the camera. I have looked online for help but nothing seens to be working. Here is what i have done so far:
- put in a fresh batttery
- the nikon factory reset
- removed the memory cards and replaced them
- tried new cards
- held the shutter release down
- held the on switch to the light bulb and released it
- removed the battery for 10 minutes and tried again.
Any tips would be great. I did pack my d90. I am thinking it will have to go in for repair when I get home.
Thanks in advance! |

Sounds bad.
What else does it do...does the LCD show settings? Can they be changed?
Did you try removing and reseating the lens (not on your list)? A different lens?
What if you don't insert a memory card? (Put it on shoot w/o card is ok).
Was it exposed to water or high humidity? |

Nothing else works..
The LCD is blank
Sorry I did change the lens - tried all of them.
The green light stays on without any memory cards.
It was humid out yesterday but no to the water. It didn't go through any drastic temp changes either. i.e. air conditioning to high humidity.
Thanks Neil
Edit to add I am heading outfor a planned trip at noon. I will check back later.

I'm guessing a bent pin in your SD card slots, or a foreign object/metal object shorting something there. You might open the SD card door point the opening down and give the camera some shakes to see if anything comes out (with the SD cards removed).
Otherwise, perhaps call Nikon service, see if they have any ideas. And likely, it will go back... |

Thank you so much for helping Neil! I left the camera for the day and when I came back tonight everything was working great. I wonder if it was the humidity. Hopefully there won't be a next time but if there is I know patience will be tested too!
Really huge thanks!

That was scary. I would carry both cameras for the rest of the trip, and not go out with just the 7100.
Glad it resolved itself, and everything is working again.
I have had some card err messages with the D7000, but it turned out to be one of the cards was not on the "approved by Nikon" list. After that it would not shoot with only a card in the 2nd slot. Formatting a Sandisc Ultra card fixed the problem. |

Yup it was scary! I will be carrying both bodies with me for the rest if the trip! I guess it does like long car rides!! (11hrs!) |

Definitely scary, Trace. Ryan's always warning me to not leave my camera bagged up in the car in humid weather. I always have a bunch of desiccant packs in my camera bag, usually one per compartment, to keep moisture levels as low as possible. |

I had a somewhat bewildering GLOD moment too, last night. Had been out shooting all day in humid (but not excessively so) conditions and shot out the batteries, as I use the battery grip too. So I took them out, recharged one, put it back in the camera body slot...and got the GLOD and nothing else. Little bit worrisome.
So I put in the other battery, which still had 1 bar left, and was relieved to see the GLOD vanish and the display light up normally.
Since then have put the fully charged battery in and charging up the other. Like the furniture salesman said, sofa, so good.
*whew* As a dedicated one-camera person, I was starting to sweat a little. Maybe I'll get an old D90 or a refurb D7100 for backup. |
