This is not good when trying to photograph lightning. So hats off to all you who can actually sit there and get those great weather shots.

Clara- and I just missed a killer cloud burst.

LOL - That's hilarious. :-D

Thanks again to everyone who commented. :-)

Very impressive shots Jen - you've done very well, particularly for a first attempt.

That looked like another humbling display of nature.

hey jen:

great shots....congrats. just want to clear something up for you. as to why the lightning would come out regardless of shutter speed or aperture. lighting is a direct light source and any camera, any time will record a direct light source...for example, u can be in pitch darkness with one lightbulb on in a room and although the room will remain dark with an exposure of say...1/60 @ f8, the lightbulb will record.

your approach at 15 @ 3.5 was a great choice. did u maintain that thruout the shoot? or did u bracket different shots?

just curious.

Number 1 is great, definitely would have won the Centered contest!

Yes, the rebel has bulb mode. You need the RC-5 remote though to prevent camera shake.

Hi, Robin. Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense. I'm still new to all of this and have a ton to learn. :-)

I used shutter priority at 15 seconds for all of the shots. I did start off at ISO 200 but changed that to ISO 100 after just a few shots.

Ben, Jon, and Piotr - Thank you!
