Gone are my heavy stuff days, I love to travel light.
But unlike most of you I have no car, and walk, cycle, use public transport at all times.
Which I guess makes a difference.

I also only take crap as well of course.

MAK's most important point is that it's different for everyone. I'm old enough to remember when they first introduced digital cameras. That created an uproar as well, and for quite some time, the quality was simply not there, so it was easy to resist switching over. Film so very clearly produced a far superior image. Fast forward several years and those differences have all but vanished.

It will be the same for mirrorless. I am not a gadget jockey who jumps on a bandwagon until the product has evolved to where it's equivalent to the other system. I adore my current system but it does have the weight drawback. That's pretty much the only "bad" thing for me.

When I reach your fine age I hope to be as wise.

I find uses for every system, as each has it's strong points. So really, I just own a crap load of cameras.

Largely all I care about is usability and sensor size. Obviously the mirrorless cameras have a potential advantage in terms of portability and they're quieter. Of course, if I want maximum depth of field, my go-to camera is my Galaxy S5 cellphone. So again, I prefer different systems for different purposes.

With that being said - I own some pretty decent gear and I really do typically just carry around my Fuji X100s, the reason is sheer joy of use and a great all-around set of abilities.

Switched over from Canon to Olympus over a year ago.
Would never go back.
Size and weight is amazing.
Love the image quality.
It works for what I do.

Unfortunately I'm moving into video and I might have to get a Panasonic g6 or gh3 or maybe the gh4???
The good thing is .... they use the same lenses. yay And they are also nice and small but a little larger than the Olympus.
Now if Olympus would only fix the codecs and a few other tweaks in their firmware for video I wouldn't even be considering a Panasonic.

Thought about a mirrorless camera for taking cycling, but due to the physics of a larger sensor, which doesn't do anything for the size of the lens, it won't fit in a jersey pocket. So I'm sticking with my Powershot S90 for convenience and a DSLR in a rack bag for more serious photography.

FWIW, from the reviews I've read, the Olympus models (at least) challenge any APS-C sensor. And the lenses for the M43 models are much smaller than APS-C lenses. Also, companies like Sony in the APS-C sized cameras work to downsize lenses.

The A6000 + Zeiss 16-70mm F4 (24-105) + Sony 10-18mm F4 (15-27) weigh 2.05 lbs, with lens hoods.
The D7100 + 24-70mm F2.8 + sigma 10-20mm F3.5/5.6 weighs 5.5 lbs and is significantly bulkier

And the Sony 10-18 was signficantly sharper than the Sigma and the Zeiss 16-70 was a pretty close match for the very expensive 24-70 Nikon, though not completely (seemed diffraction set in too early above F16)

Hello Maria, I work with Olympus and I'm interested in the issues you're pointing out. I'll PM you so we can get in touch.

I still own a E-PL1 but I don't use it anymore. I passed it to my daughter.

I did love it but after I got my Canon 40D stolen and replaced it with the Canon 6D I just stopped using it. I do travel a lot but do not really have enough time to take pictures, but mostly snaps. However, I carry my 6D almost everywhere paired with the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM, combo that gives me a gorgeous full frame quality in a quite portable pack when need it.

That being said my new phone Sony Z1C is also quite good so I am not tempted in any way by mirrorless now. Oh, and is waterproof :)
