Anyone have a beat on free or low cost message boards? Basically wanna create a small online community where folks can post questions/comments & have others respond to it.

Any help or suggestions would be great!
Thanks in advance

Hey Rooster

I use Ikonboard for my message board(s), its free and extremely powerful while also being fairly easy to setup.

You can see my basic under construction message board at my site here

try PHPbb it is the best and it's free, opensource. You just need a php/mysql based server to run it and someone with a bit of experience to install it in 5 minutes.

I just put one on my site today - and it was free plus piece of cake to set-up.

Thanks everyone!
Is can these be set up without a website attached to it? If not, are there places to set up message boards without a specified website?

Hi Jon

Is it? I don't know personally because its hosted on my webhost's server and not mine, so if it drags down resources it doesn't effect me.

I might look into it though in case I ever move it to a local system instead of a remote one... thanks for the heads up.

Well don't take my word for it, just today I someone I know (kind of) had to remove their Icon B becasue the sys admins said it's very well known for draining resources..?

I am very stupid when it comes to system stuff ;)

I use YaBB. It is really easy to set up and also easy to administer. Search google for Yet Another Bulletin Board YaBB. My husband uses something else, and he said it's better and easier than YaBB. When I reach him, I'll post what it is... I think he's out to lunch.
