I don't know much about camera lens and I'm kind of torn between getting a Canon 300D or Nikon D70 late this year or early next. So, I'm just curious to know if there are any major differences between the lens each company makes and is their selection about equal?

Thanks.

I'm not a huge expert here but this is how I see things:

Canon lenses are priced slightly better, have a wider selection, better lenses for telephoto, and more lenses with image stabalization.

Nikon lenses are priced slightly higher, better lenses for wide angle, less image stabalized.

So, they both have strong points depending on how you shoot. I use canon but think that the D70 is a better camera than the 300D, but I like Canon glass alot better so thats the deal breaker for me. I have friends who feel the exact opposite.

Thanks for the input.

Also, does anyone think it would be wiser to get a 10D instead of the 300D?

If you can afford the 10D, why not? What would stop you? Either way it's a new cam to learn, DSLR either way, and the 10D has more and better stuffs. :)

I decided on the 10d. The 300D is a fine camera. I wanted the all the features, the metal body, that the 300D didn't have. Figured it was worth the extra money. I guess to me if I was going to be putting out a chunk of change for a dslr, I wasn't going to fool around with a paired down version. So I saved alittle longer and get the best I could afford.

I looked at a lot of cameras, and decided on canon, because of the glass variety among other reason. Also because if I ever can afford the 1d I'll have glass to go on it.

Once again, thanks for the input.

I hope that when I finally got enough saved away the 10D will be a litter cheaper so I can get a nice lens or two :-).
