I am curious - when I upload a photo for a challenge that is too big it won't allow me
However I can upload this large photo to workshop and then it allows me to copy from the workshop.
Is this copied file then breaking the rules as it would appear it is larger than the 300KB max?
Anyone every get DQ for file being too large? |

I believe the copy operation actually re-sizes your photo for you. |

AFAIK this is correct -- the entry as displayed will have been re-sized to 800 pixels on the longest side. It is usually recomended that you perform this re-sizing step yourself, so that any necessary sharpening can be applied afterward. |

It will resize it to 800 pixels on the longest side, yes, but I think Paul is asking if the file size is reduced. |

Thanks - yes I was curious if the file size is changed and if not could this lead to being DQ due to entering a file that is greater than 300KB? |

hummm...I got a question then, when I upload to workshop first and then copy to challenge, knowing that challenge entries won't appear on workshop until voting period is over, does this mean that it would make the same photograph private from workshop too during the time? |

When you copy from workshop there will be a copy placed in your portfolio. When you click on that one you get a webpage (named: Edit Portfolio Image) with an empty image in the upper left corner and the size of that image (although it says: original: xxx.x kb).
I tried it with an image slighter bigger than 300 kb and it states: original: 306 kb. Not clear it adjust size then. Sorry!

I can confirm that it does not re-size the image if the longest size is 800 px or less. I had a 340KB file in my workshop that I copied to a challenge. I previewed the challenge image, downloaded it and it still shows 340KB. |

I'd call it more of a pitfall as the regular up-loader helps protect us from ourselves. The rules say the image must be 300KB or less so I am guessing you could still be DQ'd. |

You do have a point... the 300kB language is explicitly in the rules, so a DQ is a definite possibility.

This loophole has existed forever.
It's been used by many of us to get around the 300KB limit. Glad the rest of you are finally catching up. |

Including those of "us" who've been around for 21 days and never entered a challenge? Giving yourself away here, are you? |

It's Garry's "super clever anagram troll account," as he put it. He's absolutely horrible at anagrams. |

The plot thickens!! Garry and Zelinde have never been seen in the forums together at the same time!!! |
And now neither of him is online. He must be plotting their next move. |

They are probably busy writing a script to check all the past ribbon winners to see if any of them violated the 300KB rule and push for a DQ. |
