I did do a brief search to see if this has been asked, but I could not find anything.

I currently use Canon Zoom browser to transfer images to my PC. I love how I have it set to create folders based on Year/Month/Day. However, I am looking for something that can do way more than just that.

I now have 2 canon cameras and want to avoid duplicate file names so when transferring photos is not gonna cause a problem. I have a 2 week road trip / photo excursion coming up soon and want to avoid problems where I can.

my wish list:

Automatically add a suffix to each file name to specify the camera model. IMG_0001.70D and IMG_0001.T5i, this way I know what camera took the photo.

Automatically create a RAW sub folder for each individual day, and move the .CR2 files to that folder, leaving the jpg in one folder and the CR2's in a separate one. example: c:\2014_05_16\RAW

Right now I have been doing this manually for the RAW sub-folders.

any ideas?

Adobe Lightroom 5.X can certainly do this.

Lr can do the folder-by-date thang, but I'm not sure Lightroom is natively capable of separating RAWs and JPEGs. If you always shoot RAW+JPEG, this may be an issue, as I don't know of a program that will deal well with this.

As far as importing, RAW conversion, and cataloging, pretty much anything you want except detailed editing, Lr is a fantastic tool, and I highly recommend it. My one caution is that it is a significant learning curve, and needs to be set up properly from the start.

I'll second the recommendation for Lightroom.

Watch some tutorials on YouTube, read a couple online tutorials as well. It's actually a pretty powerful editor in addition to the file management. I just started learning about using control points, and stuff like the gradient mask, for selective exposure adjustments etc. It's not going to replace photoshop, but for certain tasks, I'd say lightroom is easier. Definitely worth the time it takes to learn.

I do believe I found a program that works as I want it. ACDsee 17. I downloaded the trial version and i was able to configure it on the import to create the folders by year/month/day, then I set it up to add a prefix of the Camera Model (Canon EOS 70D - IMG_3094) (Canon EOS REBEL T5i - IMG_0054) and for my P-n-S Sony (DSC-HX50V - DSC00048). It also creates a sub folder for the RAW files in each days folder.
all done automatically after the initial set up

i am sofa king excited!!!

New here and just reading around. I use Eos Utility that came with the T1i and now, my 7D, I can shoot both cameras, download by YY/MM/DD and it automatically separates the photo's by camera model, in 1 folder, regardless if the camera files happen to be #'rd the same. Sends them wherever you want (Documents/ Pictures/...etc). It also has a full screen preview of the pic while downloading.
