that everyone has been here a while and that people will understand your comments.

I got this response to a comment I made in a current challenge:

Can you explain to my what DOF means and IMHO?
I'm still an ameture when it comes to technic:)
Thanks for your comment...

I think that I will be a little more verbose when making comments from now on!

why dont we just start a thread, that tells what the site lingo means.

IMHO- in my humble opinion
DOF- Depth of Field
OOF- out of focus.

i thought it was honest opinion :P and i thought OOF is the noise you make when people smack you in the face :P

That's been done. And after the thread is long gone and buried it doesn't help the newer people here!

Perhaps an enterprising inidividual could then make the possibly uknown terms a clickable link to a glossary of terms...

That glossary of terms could also contain some additional information, such as how to alter the DOF and the potential effects of that, with a few examples?

It would take some extra work, but I know it definately would help me out, being the rank amatuer that I am.

yeah, i thought it was honest too, but I wasnt sure. I saw someone write it as humble opinion so monkey see monkey do. And yes, OOF is the noise when people smack you in the face.

I guess these newbies have some learning to do. I had to.
And I was bad.

I didn't know how to open a new thread 2 years ago and had mentioned something in another thread that was off topic and boy, did they let me know I had done that.

Be patient with these new folks.

not everyone reads the forums either.

... or more commonly when struck in the abdomen.

I often use IMO if I'm not feeling particularly humble, or if I can't get real sour cream (US grocery product joke).

Hey Toocool -- See the monkey??? hehehe
LOL,LOL,LOL

Seriously though, some good ideas here. Maybe someone could write a tutorial explaining terms, acronyms, basic functions etc. geared toward the newbie, and then when someone new comes around, they could be referred to that tutorial.

As a fairly new person myself, I think that would have helped me. I've had to figure out stuff the hardway, or brazenly display my newbieness with simple questions. hehehe
(or call up my bud, Toocool, and say...HELPP!!)

What do you think the "dinosaurs" around here do for entertainment? :)

I will make a tutorial of a glossary of terms--not necessarily just acronyms but the photography terms used on this site...the only problem is that i don't even know how to write/submit a Tut...once someone tells me this i'll be a lad and just make one.

It's early in the morning... so maybe I'm partially delirious, but that made me laugh so hard!
