This has probably been discussed before. Is it ok to apply Analog Efex to an image submitted to an advanced rule set challenge? |

Bear offered his opinion when it first came out:
Originally posted by Bear_Music: The texture overlay stuff is DEFINITELY not legal except in Expert Editing. Ditto the "light leaks". Likewise many of the frames, which add graphic elements (IMO at least). In the "camera types", the "Wet Plate" group is a no-no for sure, all sorts of added texture there. "Classic Camera" is pretty straightforward, should be OK, if you don't do anything with the "add dirt and scratches" slider.
Really, the more I look at it, the program's a MINEFIELD for DPC-legal editing. Every camera group has available sliders that are clearly not legal. Go into the Toy Camera group and play with the zoom/rotate blur. Awesome effect, utterly illegal in Advanced.
Just use the program at your own risk :-) |

I would agree with pretty much everything Robert said... I would also add that, in Advanced, it's not the *tool* that is legal or illegal, it is how it is used, i.e. the end result.

Part of the advanced editing rule set description:
We may "apply filters, effects, dodge & burn, and other tools to all or part of your entry, but NO new shapes or features may be created in the process."
I think adding a uniform texture like film grain is about as far as we can go. Anyway, I'll stay away from Analog Efex when editing for advanced rule set challenges. |
