LOL, that's how I came up with the Missouri Breaks: closest thing to your backyard I could think of that MIGHT have worked... So thanks for that clarification. Say hi to Mickey for me willya?

Never been there. I figured it was a canyon somewhere in the eastern US based upon your clues. So I just did an "Eastern US canyons" Google search.

It looks like a neat place. If I'm ever down that way, I may check it out.

It is - there are several hikes that you can take to get to the bottom and it's quite large. Not Grand Canyon large but large for what it is. They call it the "Little Grand Canyon of the East". The one that we took down was about 1/2 mile to get to the bottom, but it is UP hill on the way back with switch backs. You would never know this was there until you absolutely drove up to the edge and saw it. The land before it is flat and just rolling hills. What you see in the red is the Georgia Red Clay which makes for very interesting patterns.

Correct (I think). I grabbed it from a view from the WTC tower GigaPan thingy. Here is a google street view of it. I could not find a sign or label that identified it exactly, though. You're up, Bear.
