Mike will never return. He took too many risks in his own life. |

Everyone is afraid for the unknown. Very human. And financial liabilities (mortgage) is often the main reason not to do something you really want. But when your heart is really longing for something, you have to give it a try. We (me and my wife) did, we didn't feel happy in Holland anymore and we really wanted to move to Scotland because we loved that country. It took us 10 years to take that step but then we decided to go. Sold the house, terminated our jobs and went. And not a day I regret that decision.
I think there are some good advises here, take it step by step, start your business while working part-time (should be not a problem in Holland) and go for it. Good luck! |

I guess we all differ in our approaches to life.
I have taken a month off without pay every year for the last 40 years and have traveled extensively.
When one factors in the cost of going to work and the added taxes the differences are not that great... and when you factor in that you do not have to deal with the "aggravation" associated with work you most definitely are on the plus side.
Mind you, when I was at work I worked very hard, saved as much as I could, paid off the mortgages as quick as I could and tended to live well within my means.
When in travel mode, I have and continue to sponge off of ...err visit friends and acquaintances, travel lightly, rent a cheap car and make my own lunches... thereby saving a bundle.
One should always remember the old maxim that says: "It is very difficult to "Pay as you go" when you are still paying for where you been at. :O)

True! However, this is one of those questions that SHOULD get resurrected every 5-6 years :) |

just a bit from my experiences, I to had a pile of Bricks tho probably cheaper than yours, A wife and 2 kids.Plus a large unused room with outside acces.
I did the same path you are doing
I started part time, during weekends and evenings, and it worked well.
I went down the road as a social photographer, weddings and engagements, wedding anniversaries and all other anniversaries and get togethers.
I woked at this and also full time in another photography job. |
