You're right, though there are some areas where it splits into some small channels, and there are some houseboat communities along there -- I've seen them from the train, though only from the other side. Can't remember exactly where it is though ... :-(

Personally, I'm thinking more along the lines of the Russian River, near the coast. Somewhere between Monte Rio and Jenner?

General E is closer, Bear is moving in the wrong direction from where he was at. I am surprised no one has caught this yet, especially with all the photogs cruising around this forum. It is a pretty iconic picture.

Maybe it's part of the Willamette river? I can't remember (and refuse to look up) where the train tracks run ...

Nope, wrong state(s) ... Your guess was closer than bear's, but not that close :)

Looks a lot like Alaska. Ketchikan. Creek Street to be specific.

Yes, that is the place! Featured in most Alaskan cruise brochures for years, with a collection of t-shirt and salmon jerky shops you would expect. You are up.

Mmmmmm, salmon jerky. One of the things that makes the Pacfic Northwest the Pacific Northwest.

That and freeze dried salmon dog treats. Even the cat will do tricks for me now.

Yah, the jerky is way better than the T-shirts! It's not all t-shirts and jerky, just mostly. This guy was actually bought near there (and got me what is still the best collection of comments I ever got on an image around here)

I've never been there. But it looked more like a creek than a river to me so searched Alaska for creek and houses in google. And the northern coniferous forest is familiar to me being from both Norway and Canada.
Looking for a new pic. Coming shortly.

Looks like Paris to me.

Do they have Old Navy stores in Paris?

Nah, that looks like the Old Navy store in downtown San Francisco, on Market Street. And that does look like a Muni bus, so I am guessing San Francisco. Which is the U.S. answer to Paris, so Bear is not that far off. :-)

There IS an Old Navy store in gay paree (150 Boulevard Saint-Germain), and those are very un-American looking jeans, if you ask me :-)

I thought it looked awfully sunny for San Francisco.

Bear is right about the Old navy store in Paris. Been there myself. But I have also been to the one you can see in the picture (kid clothes shopping with shopping list from wife! ;)). And it IS in San Francisco - Market Street - 9 years ago.

You're up EstimatedEyes

See the sun does shine in San Francsico at least once every nine years. :- (Actually its close to 80 degrees and sunny out here today). Running out of images in my workshop to post, but here's one that you may be able to guess:

One of my favorite stories from Herb Caen's old column was of the five year old living in the Sunset District who went out one sunny day and said "Look Mommy ΓΆ€” blue fog!"

Exactly. An hour or so out of Death Valley NP, and worth the trip (a bit more to see here and this pic does not do it justice). You are up.
