This two lense kit is available at Ritz Camera and is something I am considering picking up this evening.
It's not terribly expensive and seemingly would provide me with a great deal of range beyond the lense that came with my Canon Digital Rebel.
I want to increase my capabilities of being able to obtain some decent candid shots without having to sneak right up on top of people (Which often leads to killing the candidness of a shot...) as well as not having to spend to much money just yet...
For the time being I simply am unable to justify spending more then $300 on an individual lense, being that I don't get paid for photography and am stil rather the novie when it comes to SLR cameras.
If this two lense kit is really a pair of sub-par lenses, the other option I am considering is this lense.
Again, I am not looking for anything particularly pricey so much as I am looking to expand the distance I can be from my subjects without them necesarily noticing that I am shooting them. I have some family members that would look great in shots, but have this terrible aversion to being photographed so much that they ALWAYS stick out a tongue, roll their eyes or do other shot ruining actions... just as I am about to snap them.
So, what are your thoughts on this glass? |

I have both, and like them.
You might want to watch this thread also.

You have both lenses or both the two lense kit and the second lense that I also posted? |

Are there any additional opinions that could help me with my decision? Right now I am leaning towards this purchase as I see it as a great little addition to my camera... |

I would definitely buy it ... I haven't have much experience with these lenses yet but I have the 70-300 mm that I bought for way more than the price of your kit ... it takes beautiful photographs. I went up the Sears Tower with it, and you can see some of the results here. Quite satisfied with the Sigma ... probably a little slower (autofocus) than the Nikkor but for an amateur like me, there's not much difference. The Nikon D70 came with a kit lens (28-70mm Nikkor) that cost the same for your two Sigmas.
BTW, if you can afford the 1.4 or 2x teleconverter, also from Sigma, it also is a nice addition (if they're compatible). Go to Sigma Photo to learn more about their lenses.

Your photos show they were taken with a sigma 70-200 2.8
That is a totally different lens then he is looking at. Can't really compare different lenses even if they are same manufacturer.
@Nelzie
The canon 28-105 3.5-4.5 is a great lens at about $220. While more money then what you are looking at, it is much better. |

Some I took with the 70-200 ... just didn't have time to change in the site. Sorry. |

I am sure it is a much better piece of glass. The thing is, right now, I am looking to get a decent range for shooting up close and fairly far away subjects. This two lense kit is quite attractive to me as it will provide me with a range (including the Canon EOS 300D Kit Lense) from 18mm all the way up to 480mm. Unless there are some serious known problems with these lenses or a similar and better deal available, I believe that this 'kit' is what I will be picking up.
I understand they aren't the fastest AF lenses, but I also understand they are adequette for most people's uses and right now, I believe that I fall into the 'Most People' category.
Are there any 'Shot Stopping' issues with these lenses that I should be aware of? |
