And you'd be right.

That would be the "Artichoke Capitol of the World" Castroville, CA
Specifically, the Giant Artichoke Restaurant.. Which is closed, but the artichoke was still there as of mid 2012.

You're up!

Dang, someplace I've been (the town, not the restaurant) ... I always thought they missed out in not modifying their town motto to "Artichoke Heart of the World" ... BTW to be picky, I learned it should be "Capital" ΓΆ€” the spelling with an "o" is reserved for the building itself.

You know, I just looked, and in fact they call themselves the "Artichoke Center of the World" - so technically I got that bit wrong too. ;)

Bumping this, as it may have gotten lost beneath a massive artichoke. ;)

Not correct, but by far the closest yet.

I believe you took the picture from MacArthur Causeway, in Miami - looking towards the cruise ship docks. I've driven there myself but in the daytime. Looks different then.

I took this picture recently. This year.

It's somewhere in Russia, or even Bulgaria; on the building is a patriotic/political slogan. (I guess "RODINA" refers to the political party. I really have to improve my knowledge of the Russian alphabet.)
(I happen to have been looking at a lot of Russian photos lately, including colour photos of a century ago by Prokudin-Gorsky, who has been been mentioned in this site before.)

Wow - great job! This is about 300 ft from one of our manufacturing locations. How did you find out? Could you also tell me what the text on the wall says? (I know what it says)

I found the image by searching Google for that text (had the text prepared in Google Translate first). It says something about Military Labor and Motherland (RODINA). I think it means something like: Your COUNTRY needs YOU (or something like that?).
Can you tell me what it is exactly what I see (kind of church, I presume)?

It's from the Russian occupation. And according to one of the woman in our plant that went to school when they had to learn Russian, it says: "(Our) fighting efforts - for you homeland" ("our" is guessed from the last letter of the missing word).

I'm not sure what kind of church this was (the other side is only ruins) though likely Catholic. But I do know that the Russian military closed all churches and forbid the people from Lithuania to worship or go to services. Once they were out in 1991, the people went back to what was left of their churches.

It gives a perspective on Ukraine's and/or Crimea's potential future...

Thanks. Quite interesting. I have been in Tsjechoslovakia in 1981 (those border controls were quite frightening, I must admit) and we saw many simular texts on buildings.

Will post a new image in about 2 hours.

The new place to guess:

Google sez: Loch Shiel and the Glenfinnan Monument, Scotland

Loch Shiel is a beautiful valley located in the highlands of Scotland. It was here in 1745 that Bonnie Prince Charlie (the last Scottish Prince) raised his standard in an effort to unite the Jacobites to try to retake the throne of Scotland from English control. The Jacobites were defeated at the battle of Culloden, and Scotland has been under control of the English crown ever since. Today, the valley is a peaceful place to visit while touring the highlands (and the monument is right next to the Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous in the Harry Potter movies)

Wow, quite thorough. Indeed, this beautiful place is of historic importance for the Scots and nowadays a popular place, because of the viaduct. The loch itself also plays a big part in the Harry Potter movie, it is the place where -in the movie- Hogwarts is located (on the right side of the image - just not visible).
The loch is also a great place for fishing, it was once famous for the big salmons and seatrouts.

the viaduct a good catch

You're up, Dennis!

Just a lucky google search is all -- have never been there but if you keep posting photos like that, Scotland will keep moving up my list of places to go next!

Next up should not be too difficult -

I'm going to guess "someplace I don't want to live during a flood"

Woah! They don't look very stable or substantial.
