Does anyone here work with SEO (search engine optimization)?
My stepfather has been doing this for years, and has offered to tutor/train me in the field.
I've been working as an xray tech for 22 years now, and with arthritis issues, I just cannot see myself being able to do this for another 20 years. So, a career change is about to take place. The goal is to learn as much as possible about SEO, before relocating back down to SE MI where I work along side my stepfather while he teaches me the business. So far he has given me the link to searchengineland.com to get me started. I have to wait until June to move, so I have a few months to study up with whatever info I can get. Meanwhile, he also has several real estate contacts that he is going to try to get to use me for photographing their listings (as a side job).
If any of you have experience in this field and can direct me to some good learning tools online I would appreciate it. Thanks

Google has a nice set of videos here; //www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW6ZA4MMHZg
Totally un-biased, of course - considering Google make money from SEM, not SEO!
Actually the video I linked is talking about SEO certification, and how there's no real industry standard at the moment, which makes it difficult to provide a universally recognised professional qualification.
Oh, Google also offer AdWords certification programs. If you're involved in SEO then you should have a good understanding of paid advertising (dominated by Google AdWords at the moment). It's debatable whether it's a good idea spending time and money getting a qualification so tied to a specific company. I've always rated generic professional qualifications more highly - For example a qualification in 'Digitial Marketing' is worth more than an 'Adwords' qualification. |

Brent Pennington ( OdysseyF22) is engaged to a really nice girl named Mandy Boyle, who is an SEO expert. You might drop him a line to get in touch with her. They're both great people. I see Brent hasn't been on the site for some time... if you don't have luck contacting him here, let me know and I can connect you guys through Facebook. |
