Definitely! Photography (or any art, really) is a matter of looking at your environment and being inspired to re-create it or interpret it in a unique way. It's a kind of vision.

Love this shot!

The folder was titled 'Wedding Related". Are you married?! They look like honeymoon shots! Am I missing something? I thought I got married young at 19 (still going strong and happy 17 years come June 6th).

Umm, I think that shot is under his "travel" folder.

I so want Isaac to comment on one of my photos! I copied some of my favorites of his comments.

"Why did that guy wave himself and his guitar around?"
"Someday you need to teach me how to make that paper."
"I want a tuba!"
"If I saw a bird I would try to catch one and keep one."
"I wish I could sleep on the moon."
"That looks kind of like a rooster crowing."
"t makes the skin look kind of blank."
"If a bee was on that flower I would grab a net and catch it."
"Someday if I have a bug like that I want to use it to sting spies."

I realize these comments may not be considered helpful by the receiver but they truly represent a viewer who is
reacting to the picture in the most honest and gut-level way.

I'll let him know! Unlike when I typed those comments for him, he can read your note himself now ... maybe it will give him an incentive to get back into photography a bit more ... he's kind of been on hiatus while dealing with First Grade.

I remember First Grade. It's tough! :D I didn't like my First Grade teacher, Miss Hathaway and I had to go to Second Grade for reading and Math. Have you ever shown Isaac any of the Family of Man books? I bet he would come up with some great writing responses from those (I'm assuming you are familiar with the series and that it is frequently used in writing classes).

I just uploaded some more photos my kids took that I discovered in the hardrive.

Taken by my youngest this past fall.

Self-portrait of my oldest and her best pal...

Portrait of my daughter taken by either her sister or her friend (both are teens).

I'm 19, and been taking photos for about 5 months now with my first camera (the A70, which I paid for).

I'm getting much better with time, these challenges had really improved my skills and understanding of how to take a good photograph.
Also, it's the only chance to abuse the camera and play with all the manual functions :-)

No, I am not married, those are wedding related shots that I have taken for friends and relatives. Thank you for your nice comment on my shot!

;D I'm a women with ADHD. A few months back I read an article geared toward parents dealing with their adult ADHD children (it is now pretty much a myth that kids grow out of ADHD). Many of these adult kids wind up living back at home with their parents at some point in their adult lives for various reasons (this was the case with me, actually). The author cited research that suggests that a woman with ADHD in her late 20's, early 30's has the emotional maturity of someone in their late teens. I couldn't argue with that research. :D
Not to get all mushy and pyschological in a photo thread, but I think I've been able to be a good parent to my three kids (who I had between the ages of 20-23) because my own childhood and adolescence were still very vivid in my mind. My husband, 40 come June 17, is also a big kid at heart. I'll admit, we are considered the cool parents in my kids' circle of friends. Mostly because we treat their friends like interesting human beings regardless of age. The fact that we are both musicians and our house is cluttered with equipment doesn't hurt our cred. ;D

I think this is why this thread has fascinated me. Last night I was so interested in reading the responses of actual teens (and those barely out of their teens) that I managed to stay away from the 'update' link. :D

My youngest took this candid of me and my husband when she was eleven. I've lost a lot of weight since then. :D
I set
this portrait up with that Yashika Twin Lens reflex I mentioned last night. I was 16. My husband (then boyfriend) took the photo. It looks gorgeous enlarged to 8 x 8 (square format). It is still one of my favorite portraits of myself. Keep in mind this is a not so great scan from a 2x2 print.

In '88 my husband was in a hastily put together marching band as part of an unusual float in the Bristol 4th of July parade (the oldest in the country and a huge event) for the Rhode Island Film Commission. I arrived early and photographed the preparations and followed along the parade route. I was 21 and five months pregnant with my son. Here is one of the shots I particulalry like. This is a scan of a 4x3 35mm print.

I haven't progressed as much as I should have in 20 years of taking pictures. I spent a lot of those years snapping my kids and friends. Don't get me wrong, I have some great candids and captured a lot of great moments. But aside from a college photo class I took at 26, I haven't put a lot of energy into really thinking about the pictures I make. Here's a photo I took during that class.

So my advice to you teens and just-out-of-your-teens is to keep it fresh, don't stop looking around you, and don't lose focus of your goal to grow as a photographer. From the photos I've seen most of you are already ahead of me in terms of skill. Just compare the work I did in my teens and early twenties to what I'm doing now (of course you will be comparing film with digital but that is more technical than anything).

More of my older work can be seen here and here.

You are definitely improving Alex. I gave this photo a seven (and commented positively on the framing).

As for Konodar, you've easily surpassed my skills. I have a lot of catching up to do. :D

I remember you movieman! You took this gorgeous shot. You also have an impressive portfolio.
Mine aren't as good as yours by any stretch, but I have a series of 'green eye' portraits (including one of myself which was Photoshopped---I have nearly black eyes. :D) Mine are rather in-your-face candids so they range in quality. You can see them, along with other less recent (and down right ancient) work of mine,
here.

Whew! That's kind of a relief. Although I've had a very successful marriage despite how young I was (I was 19 my husband was 22) I wouldn't recommend it to any teenagers. Someone mentioned this photo was in your travel folder. Like I said, I have ADHD. LOL!

Gotta go pick up my kid at school now! She needs to make a costume for a late night, outdoor pillow fight sponsored by a group of RISD kids. It starts downtown and progresses up the hill to the East Side (Brown and RISD campus area). My kids and their friends participated in one they had for Halloween and they wound up being the youngest ones there.

I was 21 when I did these shots, but it was only my second year of doing photography.
They where both film images.

This one was done with a 4x5 camera.

This one was both 35mm and 4x5 camera. i shot the bottle over again by itself with the 4x5 and then imposed it over the one he was holding.
