I have received notification that my photo in Opposites is going be Dq'd. I have sent the original photo in that I have saved to my hard drive, but have been asked to send in the original 'straight' from the camera...this image was deleted from the camera card once I had saved it to my hard-drive. Is all the exif data not the same on the one on my hard-drive as it would be if it was still on the camera card?

After I had sent the original file in (4.4 megs) I got back confirmation that this file had been received at DPC.

I am now being asked to sent the original...but I already have... What am I missing and am I about to be DQ'd???

Thank to anyone who can alay my fears.... :)

Was your original file a RAW file or a JPG? Either way, the Canon software (if you use it) may have your original somewhere. If so, do you know exactly where the original files are stored?

It's fine if it's on your hard drive, but it has to be the original as you copied it directly from your camera. If you changed it at all, like resizing, or anything, it won't have the right EXIF stuff anymore.

I just joined this week and entered my first photo, it was almost immediately requested for DQ review, is this common? All I did was crop it and adjust the overall contrast, this is kind of a hassle.

I got a DQ request because my picture was doing well.
And I think that is the norm.
When the challenge finished, the two pictures in front of me were DQ, thus giving me first place :-)
So it wasn't a hassle for me.
Worth all the effort!!!!

Same here, although it wasn't to much of a hassle to upload the file. I am just wondering why my shot was put up for DQ Review.

The only changes I did to mine was a B&W conversion and then a crop to have my subject fill the shot.

There are a multitude of possible reasons - have a read of my DQ guide for more info.

Anyone can make a request, but when they do so they state for what reasons. It is my understanding from being around a while that the SC receives the reason why and obviously the image and they judge whether the request had any merits. If the vote comes back to receive additional proof then the request for the original image is sent out via a standard form letter.

I can understand a form letter being used the first time, but when there is another problem after the original has been sent I would think it would be better/easier if the second email was written specifically about the problem encoutered so that the person receiving it knows what the problem is without asking in the forums. I assume the second email is another form letter but have no personal experience (touch wood). This does seem to becoming a frequent problem.

We only tend to re-request if there is a problem with the original that has been uploaded, and we always put the reason for the re-request in the response. However, we can't give out details of the original request, for reasons which we have discussed before.

Guy's, sorry for the forum...mistake is on my side of the world as it apperars that I have accidently saved "lighting level" alteration to my original file as well as the edited 'saved as' version and thus did not understand when I got a second request to re-submit the 'original' file as take from camera.

Thank you all for you quick responses...Rest assured I will not be making the same mistake again.

I had a similar problem. I have always used Photoshop to batch all my files (for renaming purposes) not understanding that it 'saved' a new file over the old one. I thought it just renamed them. So, I don't have a single photo 'straight from the camera' with exif info. ALL of mine have been batched for renaming. It's sad, but I'll never do that again either!!! I am testing out different renaming software (that doesn't resave the file).

I believe Irfanview (free) can do a batch rename without altering EXIF. It has been a while since I last did a batch rename, so check it out before you use it seriously. It is also a small download and a very useful viewer and slideshow tool.

Do not despair...

Unfortunately there is so much paranoia about cheating at this site that DQ requests are more common than they used to be. I could be wrong, but I believe the Site Council has implemented random checking because of that. That may be what happened to you.

I've rarely had a DQ request on my images but have and so will you. If you are in the top 5 you will always be asked to supply proof for your image.

BTW, welcome to DPC! :)

That's mostly because more photos are being disqualified than used to be ... it's not really fair to call it paranoia if it's based on actual events.

Either way... it does take a little fun out of things. I do appreciate you trying to reinsert it back again though.

I think it's the cheaters who took the fun out ... and people are still getting DQ'd for date problems (see the other thread). I find evaluating DQ requests one of the least fun aspects of the site and would just as soon not have any.
