Land's end?
ETA: I guess I mean Penzance, since "Land's end" per se has few buildings and streets!

I'm sure it's not Penzance, nor Newlyn. I have been racking my brains trying to think of a village/small town other than St Ives that has a harbour on one side and open sea on the other - suggests a peninsula of some sort. I wonder if we are on a wild goose chase with Cornwall, in that when Paul said very close, it was close in so much as it is one of his two favourite places rather than geographic proximity. I also note he said in the UK as opposed to England or Britain - Northern Ireland perhaps? |

I know this on, I think, but I will hold out guessing for a while to see if anyone else comes up with the answer. Am I right in thinking that it's name contains a silent consonant? |

Depends who's pronouncing it (tourist will definitely do it wrong), but you're right. |

And there is a bit of an American connection to it, too.
