I have a brand new Nikon D7100 that seems to be functioning well. 3 of the 4 lens I own work fine. Problem is I've tried (2) brand new Nikon 105mm, 2.8, AFS VR macro lenses and neither one will allow me to set the aperture at 2.8. Lowest it goes is 3.0. Anyone ever run into this before? |

How close are you focused? That lens is variable aperture at close focus distances. |

Set focus at infinity and try again. A macro lens "loses aperture" when it's focused close.

BTW, nearly all macro lenses do this, not just this one. I don't understand why, but it's related to keeping the lens from extending out a long way when you're focusing close. |

Wow folks, never knew that. Focusing within 4 ft. and it goes to 3.0. However, when I focused at 10 ft. it went down to 2.8. OK, bottom line, nothings wrong with the lens. Thanks for teaching me this. |
