I am officially buying a Digital Rebel in the next week to three. I am pricing/putting together packages and I need those of your help who either a) got a great deal/saw a great price or b) are very bored and wish to find out what can be done.

I want:

*D300 body
*18-55 EFS kit lens
*75-300mm (or so) lens
*50mm f1.8 lens
*Some combo of 256MB, 512MB, 2gig microdrive, 4gig microdrive memory that lets me shoot a ton.
*Extra batteries (2)
*and a card reader (usb 2.0)

So far, I have:

Body/lens/1 battery/battery charger - $909
body only - $850
18-55mm kit lens - $80
75-300mm lens - $150
50mm f1.8 - $60
512 MB cards - $80
256 MB cards - $37
2GB microdrive - $155
4GB microdrive - $215
batteries - $7
card reader (6 in 1) - $20

Does anyone know of lower prices anywhere? If so, could you post me the direct link and tell me which item it's for? If you're not that bored, at least you know what I'll be shooting with! :)

Someone posted a 300 from some on line place and it was dirt cheap. Cheaper then I had ever seen by a long ways.

Maybe you can find the link or someone will repost for ya.

You DON'T want that link! They had horrible ratings and people had awful things to say about them. Go with a reputable company.

What 300mm lens are you looking at. There's cheap and then there's crap. I have a Sigma 70-300mm 4.0-5.6 APO. Great lens for the price.

Thanks - it's a Tamron lens, I believe. I'll have to go back and look again. That's ok? Or no? :) I may just go with the Canon - I think it was 165.

I like the way you think - except if I had an extra 600 laying around, I'd just get the 10D or a kit and not worry about how much it was costing. lol

You are so damn mean. Hey I have practically bought the camera for you with all of my print buying, so you should be a but nicer to me lol

I will look later your holy worship :p

There are some dodgy sites out there (don't know off hand) but I will try and find them for ya too, so you can avoid lol One asked me to send photos of my photo idea and my credit cards to them, which seemed really odd. (ID fraud maybe?)

I actually just bought a 300d tonight. I looked around a lot and there didn't seem to be a large fluxuation in price, so I just went to circuit city and got the kit for $999 + an extended warranty for an extra $100, so if (god forbid) I drop it, I'm covered.

Well check your email because I found body and 18-55mm lens together for only $659 or $589 without lens. That price seems way too good to be true though.

See what happens when you use force? I get off my ass and do something lol

Make sure you read this thread before even thinking about dealing with anyone selling the Digital Rebel kit for less than $899. There are other threads with similar warnings, but that was the first one I found...

Doh the online store they are talking about is the one I found also.

Yeah I know to check reseller ratings or even ebay scores. I'm not too worried about the shaft - I need legitimate low prices. Somene posted a 70-300mm Tamron somewhere that's 110 bucks, so I'm crossing off the 160 for the Canon at least until I get to see and compare them.

Good choice Matt :)

Don`t forget the battery grip.
The sigma 70-300 super apo 11 is good for the price.

Hey Mav, have you tried Buydig.com? They're awesome. I just bought my Canon GL2 from them and had a great experience. They list the Rebel body-only at $799. No hassle, fast shipping.

Thanks! I'm going to look there now and price all that stuff.

Someone PM'd me to try pricegrabber? Is that what DPC uses? I think so. I'm going there now too!

I've been buying stuff up and pricing it out on ebay and such. I think I'm going to go with buydig for the cam itself, as well as the 18-55mm kit lens, and probably the 75-300 as well! :) Great prices.

Also, I bought some batteries and memory today - it was weird buying accessories before I get the cam, but may save some grief in the end if I get it all together soon! :)

Thanks all! This is quite an adventurous shopping experience.

The Tamron 70-300 LD is a pretty good lens, especially when you consider the cost. It's lightweight and takes some really sharp pictures. I have samples available if you want.

Mavrik, why did you decide on the 300D instead of the Nikon D70? Just curious. From what I've read, it seems to have an edge on the 300D.

Because the Nikon costs a few hundred more and I plan on upgrading again in 2 yrs or so, so I'll get a 1d or something. I like the canon upgrade line - 10D, 1D, 1Ds, etc... and it's lighter and I like it more aesthetically. (I have a silver cam now ;))
