I don't know what possessed me to try this, but did you know that if you google Ken Rockwell, that "Ken Rockwell - Genius or Fool?" is still the 3rd link? It comes right after kenrockwell.com itself, and a blog post by another photographer titled "Buyer Beware: Ken Rockwell."

For you and I Ann I think we are so technically inclined (if I may say so) that I at least have found his writing to be very simplistic. Is that what the masses want? The "I don't care about the f-stop, the IQ, the MFT graph, just give me fast, cheap, quick, light, with reach and a brand and the most MP and and and and" crowd... |

It gets worse... if you just Google "genius or fool" it's the first link that comes up. It's very much too bad that it is locked. But this is a good surrogate!
ETA: O, forgot to add... "Fool."

LOL. I didn't think of just googling "genius or fool."
I agree, though. Fool. Damaging fool. His target audience is beginners on a budget, and 90% of what he writes is very sensible from that standpoint. The other 10%, though, is damaging.

I'm not so sure about his love affair with Nikon. In one breath the D800 is Nikon's best ever DSLR and later he absolutely slates it for it's menu navigation in comparison to the 5D MkIII. I do find him to be inconsistent & his writing style to be very poor. His repetition even in the space of two successive sentences borders on the ludicrous. I wouldn't dismiss his advice out of hand though. He knows his subject, but is just poor at conveying his knowledge. |

Ken Rockwell has probably done more to get new people to register for this site than any of us. ...even if it is just to post to these Genius or Fool threads. :P |

Well, he likes my Fuji X100s, so I guess I'll go with Genius this year. |

What's not to love. A lady on my ship uses one. The portraits she produces blow anything I've done right out of the water. |

Thanks very much Cory. Glad to see you don't follow the normal discussion group tradition of ripping the newbie to shreds! :-) |

Only if they're idiots and persist in being vocal and stubborn about it. :D
Mostly we just really enjoy sharing knowledge and helping other photographers to grow.
Feel free to drop by the welcome center and start a thread - you'll probably get a fruit basket, or some toast.. Or... Well, hell, Art gives those things out in the threads there, and you can't ever really tell WHAT he's going to do...
In any case, it's really great to see a small influx of new users today.

Technically you start off as a suspected spammer, but since you actually posted a profile pic and camera info, NOW you're a newbie. You should post a "Hello" message in the Welcome Forum - that's where the shredding would occur. ;-) kidding. Welcome!
oops, ok, THAT time you beat me, Cory.
