Is Mackeeper software any good ?
I have had it for some time, and it tells me that it saves me space and keeps my machine in perfect working order, but I have no clue as to that it really works.
Today it said I had a security issue, I ran the anti virus scan after giving them some money to upgrade it ! The problem has now disappeared but I am none the wiser,
nothing was listed as a threat it just became OK ??!?
Any info from anyone would be of interest. |

I don't use the software. If you search Mackeeper on Google there is a plethora of articles, blogs, etc. with very mixed opinions and reviews of the software. Most being that you should not use it. If I was looking for software to do what this says it does and I read all the negative chatter about it I would not install it. That being said it is a lot like some of the applications I use and as such, it will not do anything until you tell it to other than possibly scanning for virus' upon downloading a file (not sure if it has a sentry type feature or not). The security threat you describe and the fact that you had to upgrade/pay money in order to get rid of it sounds very much like one of the 'scams' people complain about with Zeobits software and marketing tactics.
I do use CleanMyMac which does a lot of what Mackeeper does and I use ClamXV for antivirus and TrashMe as I think it does a better job with removing applications and the associated files. |
