Hi All,
I recently purchased an umbrella lighting kit via the web for taking close-up photos of tools. I got the inspriration to do these myself from this very site. The idea was to use these remote umbrella lights to replace the flash on my Nikon D3100 so as to remove the flash glare that shows up on the highly reflective chrome finish of the tools I am photographing. These lights have a 110 volt feed to charge the capacitors inside the bulbs, but the small cords/jacks that came with the kit don't fit anything on my camera. They are triggered by either the flash on my camera (built-in light sensor), or by some remote.
I called the shop (link below) and asked them what piece of equipment I needed and they could not tell me. The lady I spoke with tried to be helpful, but my questions were outside her area of expertise. Can you tell me what I'm missing? The two cords come from the pair of lights and have a female end that doesn't match anything my camera has for jacks. I need to turn the camera's flash "off" so I don't get the glare, but without that flash to trigger, my remote lighting is not of any use.
Inputs needed and very much appreciated!
Here is the link to the lighting kit. I was very pleased with the contents. There is a lot of stuff in the kit for the price - I just need to sort out the trigger needed to use them.

I started off with those years ago. You can just use them as a slave and let your onboard flash fire them. dial down the power on the camera flash or put a card in front of the flash so that the light isn't direct. Be careful of the white balance though, mine were very cool so you don't want to mix the lights with other lighting and you should use a custom white balance on your camera. |

Thanks for the inputs. I have ordered the Cowboy triggers.
