I've been looking for real bargains in high quality lenses for the shopping season and I just found one.
//www.amazon.com/Nikon-Prime-Nikkor-Digital-Cameras/dp/B001GCVA0U/ref=pd_cp_p_3
$350 for the 50mm Nikon 1.4G
Figured it would be good for a nice lightweight regular lens for the D600 and portraits for the D7100!
Get em while they last!

Thanks Neil,
I picked one up. Not sure I'll like that focal length. But if not I can pass it along on Fredmiranda and let someone else get a bargain.

Yup. Me too. Not sure I "need" that focal length, but it's a good enough deal that I'm sure I can resell it if I decide it's not for me. |

Just got mine today (it was supposed to be here yesterday, guaranteed, Amazon Prime).
But I notice that the internal focus isn't moving to the near limits when I turn the manual focus ring. And it's had some trouble getting there via autofocus as well. So it appears mine is defective :(

If you didn't get it on time, you should contact customer service. They'll make it right. (IIRC, they extend your Prime membership by a month.)
Mine showed up a day *early*. I haven't tried it yet. I guess I will have to try it tonight.

Let me know...I'm curious if these are a reject batch or something. And they won't give me a replacement!!!!!! It says I can't get a replacement because it's out of stock...yet Amazon is showing three in stock (well, Willoby but fulfilled by Amazon)
I'm going to call ... maybe I can wait to request the return until it's back in stock.
Also, I just discovered about the extension of prime a couple of days ago...but do you have to notify them? I couldn't find anywhere on the site. It says "automatically" in the help, but I don't think they've been extending my prime and they've definitely missed dates before. |

Neil they kept pushing my "deliver" date back, apparently they over sold. So I cancelled my order. |

I called and they were very nice. They said that I couldn't ask for a replacement because the only ones in stock are a third party (even though fulfilled by Amazon).
She offered to let me return it, buy another one later, and they'd refund the difference.
I asked about waiting until they are in stock before filing for return...she said that's fine, I have till January 31 to request return. So I just have to watch for them to go back in stock. I'll have to find that old alert website for Amazon I used to use!
If I don't see them in stock by the 31st, I can return it and they'll still let me rebuy and refund me.
I like Amazon! |

Sold by another retailer but fulfilled by Amazon means that Amazon is actually out of stock. It's a bit confusing, since other retailers (Willoughby in this case) can ship stock to Amazon, and Amazon will collect the money and ship it, but Amazon doesn't actually own the stock. The best they'll do is give you a refund, then you can buy from the 3rd party seller. Which *isn't helpful* in this case, since the 3rd party seller's price is so much higher.
My experience with the shipping delay and prime thing is that I had to email them to get the extension. That was a few months ago, so I don't know how it works now.
EDIT: looks like our posts got cross threaded. I'm glad it worked out. Off to try mine...back in a sec.

Another note... I stop seeing purchaser sample images on any equipments in AMAZON, there used to be the item photos on the left hand side and samples from people whoever buy the stuff under it... is there a browser setup for that which I screwed up, or they just gave up showing those samples? |

It seems to not be defective. It might be back focusing just a smidge (I was aiming at the right eye), but shooting a 1.4 lens handheld in a dark room? Not a valid test, really. |

Good news...lens was back in stock at Amazon yesterday...and I was able to process a return.
One negative..for some reason, it says I won't get it until the 25th. So maybe not "really" back in stock, but I thought I saw online that I could order one and get it in two days, via Prime. So not quite being treated, for the return, as a first "class" citizen.
But it doesn't matter...happy to be able to exchange for a (hopefully) working one! |

It's out of stock again. Interesting that they're having such trouble keeping them in stock. |

I ended up returning this. There wasn't anything really wrong with it, it's a very nice lens, and if I didn't already have a closet full of lenses, I would have been very happy with it. But it was an awkward focal length for the type of shooting I'm doing, and the Sigma 35/1.4 that I bough a couple of weeks later is both a better lens and a better focal length.
