Sure it does. When the crop tool is selected, look for the "View:" drop-down list on the bar just below the main menu bar. |
still can't find it....I selected the crop tool and on the very top line I see "View" but can't see Golden Ratio there...or is it called something else...or do I have to install it? In Elements in some of the filters I had to install various ones like "puzzle" for instance??? |
It's not on the very top line. It's on the menu bar right below the main menu toolbar.
Here's a quick screen capture from mine.
|
Found it...I don't have "View" on my menu bar...but I have a small icon box towards the right side of the menu box which has drop down menu's...thanks Scott.

My pleasure! Really, I now feel as though I've done something with my day and with a clean conscience can sit back and watch some football. |

ahhhh short recess...lol
How do I "flip" it...I can "turn" it but I don't see how I can "reverse" the pattern (turns my picture in all different ways...lol) in elements there was a <> icon to be able to flip the overlay and then I used the corner turner to adjust according (good terminology here...) |

Edit>Transform>Flip [Horizontal or Vertical]
With no selection, will operate on the entire active layer, otherwise on the selection. |

Transform is not "active" when I have the crop tool on and the golden spiral chosen??? Jeez you'd think I could figure this out... |

Correct. The crop tool is one of a number of Ps tools that invoke a process that must be completed (or canceled) before you go on to the next process. You will find that once you are in the crop process, almost everything else is grayed out. This is as intended. |

But then I can't flip it while using it??? So your saying that I have to flip it "before" I choose it? |

Thanks Robert. Now the point is that every time I try to pay there's an error message and the system asked me to change the password twice. I assume they don't want my money. |

are you saying that I have to "flip the photo" to do the crop...vs flipping "the crop tool"??? |

Why on earth do you want to flip the crop tool ? |

When you've selected the crop tool, you need to finish or cancel a cropping action before you can use most other tools. Including rotation/flip.
ETA: the Crop tool can be selected and you can still rotate, but once the tool itself is ACTIVE (you've started cropping) most options are grayed out until you finish. And the GRID won't show up until the tool is active.
You can set grid function (in preferences) in PS itself so it shows rule-of-thirds guidelines by setting grid to "every 33.33%", and it will show all the time, unless you toggle it off (cntrl-apostrophe toggles it) if that helps...

She wants to see how it looks with the Golden Rule guidelines in place while both flipped and unflipped, and the only way to get those guidelines is to be in the act of cropping. |

let me see if I can explain...
when you choose the golden spiral it is shown as an overlay on your photo with the spiral/center to the right side. I can rotate it until the spiral is on the bottom left...but I can't see how I can flip the spiral/center from the right side to the left side (staying on the top). In elements there is a >< button to "flip it horizontally/vertically" (left to right/top to bottom). Sometimes I need the spiral center to be on the left side or the opposite side (top/bottom) and just turning it around doesn't accomplish that. As it is (as far as I can tell) you can only turn it in circles with the bent arrow at the corner. So if I want the spiral/center to be on the opposite side I can't see how to do that.

The golden spiral only rotates in the other direction in the southern hemisphere. |

In the same window where you select the overlay, select "cycle orientation" to toggle it in the corners. Shift-O will toggle it too, you can run it in many orientations. |

One of the confusing things here is that you started asking about the golden RATIO and then changed it to the golden SPIRAL, you little minx you. |

In Elements they call it Golden Ratio...in CS/6 it's Golden Spiral (aka - Fibonacci Spiral). I use this crop tool quite a bit as I love what it does in a picture. |

No, ma'm, it's NOT. Look at your drop-down list a little more closely: you have both "Golden Ratio" AND "Golden Spiral". :-) |

I tried to order yesterday but apparently put something about my credit card in wrong. I now have to call them on Monday and see if I can order live and in person (by phone). I have CS4, so I'm guessing with the new pay by month I will get something akin to CS6? |

Yes, you will get CS6 EXTENDED plus LR5. From our perspective, the main benefit of "extended" CS6 is that the layer-stacking mode is fully functional (what you'd use for astronomy stacking, or for a picture like Alessandro's in the "Same Spot" challenge).
And of course, as long as you stay paid up you'll get all updates as they happen. |

Just want to pop in a say THANK you for this helpful thread.
Although it's suck in my craw I bought the 9.99$ bundle. Hate paying for renting a service.
I have been using Photoshop since PS 5.0 and stopped upgrading at CS 4. Plenty of $$ over the years.
Still things change and I've recently switched from PC to Mac. I guess it was time to pay again.
Anyway thanks for all the information it's been very helpful. |
