Part of the problem is that, Senator Cruz's recent stunt aside, there no longer are any actual filibusters; merely the threat of a filibuster is all required to stop the confirmation process. As mentioned, virtually no candidates are rejected once a vote is allowed, so the motivation for the delay is clearly not one of concern for the nominee's qualifications (except perhaps their being too good), but rather an attempt to sabotage the efficient operation of the government for political gain.

Of all the falsehoods told about President Barack Obama, the biggest whopper is the one about his reckless spending spree.

FACT FILIBUSTER

... a bit short on information this is... could you elaborate a tad. :O)

Ray

Apologies, honorable Mr. Ethier.

The information provided by honorable Mr. Music, while seeming extremely qualified to serve as an objective fact and therefore very capable of solving this dispute, is not admissible as we are operating under a FACT FILIBUSTER.

All we can do is wait for Cowboy to come by and post a cartoon.

The trick here, for those with a horse in the game, is who to lay the nealy $800 billion stimulus on which came after Obama had been elected but before Bush had left office. The question, which is difficult to answer, is whether the stimulus would have passed or been vetoed if Romney had won instead of Obama.

Someone pointed out that one small benefit of this latest debacle is that politicians have at least stopped referring to the "nucular" option ...

Keep spinning, Doc. Keep spinning. The facts clearly show federal deficits are lower under Democratic administrations than under Republican administrations. It's also been clear for as long as anyone's been paying attention that Republican's don't have any problem with deficit spending . . . unless it's done during a Democratic administration.

It's all part of a clear pattern: Republican's spend to enrich their constituencies (aka "rich folks" and military contractors) and depend on Democratic administrations to actually effect the "fiscal restraint/responsibility" that they talk about but don't actually practice.

It appears that the Affordable Healthcare act (obamacare, the unaffordable healthcare act) Is imploding and taking Obama with it as he tries to save face..

ROFL.. Imploding isn't quite the right word, but I'm at a loss for words to some degree here...

The latest revelations about the fact that all of your data (if you've actually used the site) has probably already been stolen, the Government is under no obligation to ever disclose such a security breach, and that the website has basically no semblance of data security built in are just.... are just... wow....

Effectively, not only is it a broken piece of junk, it's one of the most tantalizing targets ever created by man. Great work guys... Now, can ya'll please remind me why we decided it was a good idea to put them in charge of anything? Seems to me that most of them aren't competent at any known skill other than blustering endlessly...

If I understand correctly (and I am not at all versed in this area of law), the Federal Government isn't exactly subject to this due to some superseding law that removes the responsibility of disclosure. Granted, if they ever did disclose, they might have to fine themselves..... Bet that'd teach 'em... smh.

I think this falls under data security law, and in that realm the Fed is pretty much insulated entirely from any need to disclose, where state and local governments would be obliged to disclose.

Now, with that being said? Perhaps the lawyers can convince them that this actually supersedes the other laws, and they'll come out and tell you your information has been stolen.

..

Doesn't really matter if they disclose or not - if you've entered your data at this point, you might as well sign up for a credit monitoring service, since it's almost certain that the data has been accessed by unauthorized assholes.

LOL... I'm having a hard time containing my curiosity. I'd really like to go poke around, but I don't want to talk with the authorities later.

Not joking though, I have very little doubt I could walk right into their systems.

Which party gets to invoke God?
Originally posted by Dave Ross:

Often, you'll hear a politician claim to be acting according to what God wants. But God appears to be all over the place on the issues. Let's just look at just one religion - the Catholics. Last week, the new pope issued a lengthy vision statement, which among other things, took Capitalism to task for creating an economy that seems to leave more and more people on the margins - a statement with would lead you to believe that God might vote Democratic.

But then, on Sunday, Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York was on Meet the Press lamenting that the Affordable Care Act, which the Church at first supported, covers contraception.

"That's when we began to worry and draw back and say 'Mr. President, please, you're really kind of pushing aside some of your greatest supporters.' That, sadly, is what happened."

Sounds like God might in fact be a Republican, but not so fast.

"On immigration, we're saying to the House of Representatives, which is dominated by the Republicans is, 'You guys have got to get your act together. This is the best chance we've had at fair and just immigration reform. It's in your lap and we're not going to let you off the hook,'" said Dolan.

So which is it? Which party can rightly invoke God? I think the answer to that came at the end of the interview when Cardinal was asked what his mindset is during the holiday season.

"I think it comes down to humility. That prompts us, literally, to fall to our knees and to say thank you," said Dolan. "It also reminds us that we're not the center of the universe. It's not about me."

Well, if that's true - that God puts premium on humility - we've all seen political campaigns. How could any politician of any party have the nerve to invoke Him?

Hehe.. Tempting!

But for what it's worth, the problems with DPC aren't something a programmer can fix.

Where are you getting your information that there's "no semblance of data security built in"? An exaggeration, no?

In any event, if one is concerned about this, it's my understanding that the site now has a new feature that allows visitors to "window shop" without filling out an application. So you could shop on the site but buy over the telephone. It's what I used to do back in the day when I was paranoid about my personal information being hacked, and sometimes I still do this today depending on the website.
