I don't think the demise of the lower scores is due to the threads about votes, as much as it is critical thinking and alternate style photographers who are no longer participating. I was likewise amazed to see NO votes under 4 or 5 on my recent entries. This trend on my images is completely contrary to my history since I've joined. |

Yep! It was a total coincidence that it stopped at the exact same time. :)
Personally I'm glad SC warned people that they were watching this reverse voting and the trend now is less low votes. |

@ Tim, I'm not sure I see it as a positive. While I am glad "cheating" votes are being tamed (using numbers to enhance their own score vs scoring an image on its merits), I defend a voter's right to not like a picture, and score accordingly. As I said, the "alternative" photography set seems to be dwindling on DPC (who may or may not have been responsible for lower than expected scores on "great" images), and I see that as a big loss to our community. |

I don't see the evidence that the alternative photography set seems to be dwindling, it may be? But I'm sure it's balanced with the overall dwindling on the site.
Don't get me wrong regarding this I'm far from advocating a ban on low votes! I will give a low vote to anything that does not appeal to me, DNMC,is too cheesy, cliche or I simply don't like the pretty colours!
I usually sort the images by my vote after the challenge is completed and rarely do my top 3 finish near the top 10! |

I think I was slammed by a few people on here by even suggesting that people were doing this. How funny that a small group of people were busted for it. Hmmmm....guess I wasn't the delusional asshole everybody made me out to be. It just seemed way too odd that the ribbon winners seemed to get 1's, but I was told that everyone has their own opinion and I was just being a jerk. Guess the SC are the jerks since they temporarily banned someone...

You are incorrect*, and now you are acting like a jerk.
*No one has been suspended for voting a "1" on a high-scoring image ... |

No...I didn't say they were suspended for giving a one. I said it is odd that every single top image had at least a one and that it seemed like people were intentionally bringing down good images...but I was crazy for mentioning this. Apparently there are people out there who do this type of negative voting. And by the way, I was being facetious about the SC being jerks...obviously they took care of a problem as they should and I appreciate that. I was just pointing out that I was slammed for having an opinion about something...that was actually happening...what a concept...and I wasn't entitled to that opinion at that time...
I am not getting back into this with anyone. So if I am being a jerk about it (which I don't feel that I am)...I guess that is fine. |
