		| I just wish I could have been there to walk past that booth... I'd like to think I'd have recognized the work and bought up a few pieces.. LUCKY folks who did buy... That one fellow who bought for for his new apartment must be rather gleeful. |

On the record, I deplore the vandalism of graffiti.

Off the record, I love the creativity, the energy, the edgy beauty and free speech of graffiti.

		| He's the most important artist right now, that I know of. Feel free to enlighten me if there is someone else. |

I guess they didn't appreciate Banksy's art in East NY.
I drove past this morning and took this shot of Banksy's beaver.
We don't need more rats. Love Math

I think it's all part of the art... satirists like Hanksy and graffiti on his graffiti... it's a form of living art. |

 I personally prefer respectful artists.

Check out the story of "Taste Test" by Wormizm, and how he respected and interacted with the work of Tatu (Tatiana Suarez) |

There are now artists and companies painting/decorating store exteriors with murals and graffiti-type art ... I'll try and post a few examples. |

Here's an easy one: Wynwood Miami. :) Most of the paintings are now commissioned. |

I wonder what Banksy would say about that...

In a more serious line, while I totally respect your opinion, I don't think satire and dark humor will ever rise to "most important" status because of the derivative and cynical nature of the work. That's only my opinion and I can't say I have a name to replace it with. I do enjoy his stuff though and would have died to buy a piece for $60.

He is the least derivative artist that I know of.

This is the man who dressed a dummy in an orange Guantanamo jumpsuit and put him in Disneyland. Compare that to a shark in formaldehyde... yawn... |

I don't mean derivative in the sense of him copying someone. I mean derivative in the sense his art often requires previous art for context. (An example would be his depiction of Travolta and Jackson from Pulp Fiction.). I should say that although I used the terms derivative and cynical, this doesn't describe ALL his work.

Perhaps I don't want him to be the "most important" because I don't want to live in a world that reveres satire (especially the derivative, cynical form of satire.). I has a place, but please not the "most important" place. I love The Simpsons, but it isn't meant to be revered as art.
