If you are after password protection, just write your code with php and make sure to use your HTACCESS area. My husband does this for my site, but we have password protected php pages for me to use as my 'admin' pages.

Sorry I didnt put any extra details here. Thankyou for the responses so far, I am learning other things I had no clue about.

Personal web pages for FTP loading.
I am trying to build a site and post it via FTP. But the server does not support FrontPage extensions. Any function that uses FrontPage extensions like form field validation etc., will not work.
my FTP server will not allow me to use template based, ASP, PHP or cgi. I would like though to find a program freeware if possible to create html pages to be uploaded using FTP server. I have read that you can use Windows Notepad but there are programs like microsoft 2003 ftp client.

Sounds like you have a number of issues. First, you sound like you want to run cgi or other more dynamic applications but your host doesn't allow you? Is this correct? If so I would just switch hosting services. There are plenty of free hosting services where you can use php, asp, and cgi.

Second, it sounds like you have frontpage and would like to use that? Is that correct? If so you have a couple of options. 1. Go ahead and use it. Frontpage has built in FTP to allow you to upload to servers without extensions installed. 2. Go ahead and use it but publish to your hard drive then use a stand alone FTP application like WSFTP or CuteFTP to upload.

Third, it sounds like you really want to have some forms on your website. Do you want these to be like feedback forms? or do you want them to be used to upload photos? or what? If your host is not allowing any type of scripting to be run on the server it's time for you to switch hosting companies. Again, you can find plenty that allow for that sort of thing for free.

I agree with technoShroom.

continue to use FrontPage ( I use it) I know many people hate that program, but its best to use what you know.

Build your pages how you want. Then as TechnoShroom said use the FTP function in front page to publish (put the newly built site on your hosting server) to the server.

Or you can get cute FTP or a similar FTP program and do the uploading yourself. Its easy to do.

I use a program called Voyager FTP. It will synchronize the folders/files on the local machine (my PC) to the files on the remote server( my hosting server). This is a good function if you frequently change content or files, links on your web pages and it will only update what has changed, its a real time saver But Voyager FTP is not free.

Ooo oooo! Can I get in on the geek-speak?

Ok, I use EditPlus as my text editor and html/php/javascript editor (think Notepad on steroids), which also has built-in FTP connectivity so I can make edits to pages directly on the server. For FTP I use BulletProof FTP (SmartFTP is excellent too and free).

Yes, find a hosting provider that offers better services. I use iPowerWeb and get a free domain registration with one year hosting for about $95.

I use Photoshop for graphics and ImageReady for the javascript mouseovers and animated gifs. Hmmmm, what else? That's about it, me thinks.
