Hi guys,
I have an image 2832 x 2128 x 24b. at 72dpi
I want to submit it to DP Prints and have forgotten how to prepare the file.
Last time I used JMSetzler's tutorial, but alas he has taken it off.
Can someone point me in the right direction please. What size do I crop it to etc. I understand the aspect ratio but I am ending up after resampling with a file of 29mb !!
Paul.

which software do you have?
05/11/2004 10:24:35 AM · #3
Photoshop 7

open the photo with psp7.
Select actual/print size.

if you want 8x10 size photo has to be cropped at 1.25 : 1 ratio
click on resize all layers and maintain aspect ratio of 1.25
in resolution square type 300 dpi
now sizes in inches type 8 and 10.
save as different name .

any software you have with large files needs 512 mb ram or more...
Adobe is even worse, just a program with out a photo uses 128 mb ram..

Kosta, you gave me the method for Paint Shop Pro not Photoshop,
I appreciate the method for Paintshop but I cannot edit large files in it cos my system locks up, something to do with the way paintshop saves the undos.
I think I have twigged it now, it is almost the same.
Thanks.
Paul

Adobe is much easier:

open the photo and click on the # crop tool .
Look at the top bar
where says width type 10
where says height type 8
where says resolution type any quality you want (300,600 etc ) dpi
go to the photo and cut the printable area you want by double clicking and save the printable image.

Wow.. maybe my PSP is weird or something. I have ver. 5.03 and quite often have as many as 30 or 40 images on screen at once.. and, yes, they are biggies. I often cut and paste and composite images that are well over 10Meg. I have 512M RAM. Not sure what you may be experiencing there. My PSP used to crash a lot doing a copy/paste but stopped after I'd had to reinstall it. I often have PSP and Adobe Elements 2.0 open at the same time with multiple huge images up..
I have no idea whether my running Win2000/Pro makes a difference or not. Be sure you have a ton of virtual swap space designated, though.
Anyway, good luck
R.

I'll take a look at that Richard, I used to use it a lot on graphics etc. for the web with no problems,I have upgraded to XP and reinstalled since, maybe the swap file isn't big enough as you say.
Thanks again,
We got there eventually Kosta,
Paul.
