No. Not used in fire equipment. The colour is incidental.

where did "robot nipple" first come in to use in this thread? that would be a fun thing to know.

Relatively early as I recall. Not sure that there's an easy way to identify the post, other than to page through and do a "find" on each page.

How cool... I was going to guess an electronic furnace filter. Kinda along the same lines, electrify a grid to create a voltage gradient.
