Can the camera limit the speed at which a Compact Flash card can write?

e.g. You have a Sandisk Extreme 512MB, writes at "60x".

Let's say you have a high-performance camera, like a DSLR.

Does the CF slot have a speed limit put on it? Or is the only limit the speed that the Buffer memory operates at?? |

It depends on both the camera and the CF card. Check out //www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007

I'm not sure about the speed at which it writes, but my 300D takes FOREVER to download the pictures to my computer. If I use a card reader to download it's much much faster. Must be that aweful USB1.0 port ;)

Must be the same USB port on the 10D, because I bought a USB2.0 CF card reader within a week! |

It's the USB 1.0 port. I never use that, Iremove the card from the camera and put it in a PCMCIA adapter and into my laptop, a lot faster.

I follow Drnick's path of getting images onto my server at home.

I pop in a PCMCIA Card reader and copy everything off to the server.

It works like a charm. Not to slow either. |

Are you guys using a CardBus CF adapter?

They are considerably faster than a "plain old PCMCIA" CF adapter, topping even FireWire-based CF readers.

See here for some comparisons. |

Good question, not sure. If I had guess I would guess that it is limited to the buffer memory speed.

Yeah that's what I meant CardBus CF adapter. PCMCIA is older, I use both interchangeably even though it's not correct. LOL The slot thingie in your laptop where you plug your CFcard/adapter combo...very practical.
