I thought playing a "back game" was a standard defensive tactic when you got bad rolls early ... on the other hand, I never play with the doubling cube ... |

So to your original question, I'd say in terms of absolute numbers, yeah, there are more people playing "not fairly", simply because there are more people. But in percentage terms, I'd say it's about the same. Add in the fact that cultures are mixing and clashing globally in unprecedented numbers and the differences of how we understand and handle different situations can certainly be interpreted as "not fair". |

Well, if there is one thing that this thread has helped me decide on, it's that I am years overdue for some major changes. I'm planning one today; I am sick of bringing a knife to a gunfight. |

Yes, it totally is, and I've even had people complain about THAT, but I'm talking about STUFFING your oppo's home board with like 8-9 men. A normal backgame would be 4, even 3. This stuffing business is a last resort sort of thing, and it only works against weaker opponents, who can't seem to resist hitting every blot they are offered. |

That's why there are so many threads about voting here -- and no!!! We are not going to debate voting!! -- I'm just saying that the debate is caused because people's sense of fair play is being offended. Both by those who are receiving low votes and those who feel the right to give said votes and think they are playing fairly.
It's all about fair play.
If people didn't care about fair play, the threads wouldn't exist.
The thing is, fair play is defined differently by everyone. (which has been said already)
I feel that fair play is playing within the rules. If there is no rule against doing something, how would I know that you would think it's not fair? And if I did, why would I necessarily agree with that? It's a rule that you made up in your mind as not being fair, yet it may have been a smart strategy in my mind, and one that I couldn't figure out why you're not using or counteracting.
I never realized how many unwritten rules there were in games until I played monopoly with my husband. We played it very differently. I had never really read the directions, because I learned it from my older siblings. Yet when the rules weren't in the rule book, I looked them up on-line, and sure enough, there were many alternate games listed there. Not sure if they were alternates that were in the rules years ago and removed at one point, or how they came about. All I know is that different people play different ways, and to keep the peace, you do need to set the rules in advance and agree to play by those. If it's not in the rules, ANYTHING is fair game, whether it feels fair or not.
After all -- it's just a game.

Don't worry, I'm not buying an AK-47 and a million rounds of ammo. And maybe doing what I plan to do isn't the best thing to do, but I have to start somewhere. |

Yeah lol, though I could probably get both at the Wallyworld in O'burg ;-) But I bet Customs would confiscate my toys and probably the rest of my life, too :-(
Peeps...please...relax! Yes I am going through some pretty miserable crap at the moment, but what I am planning on doing is making some improvements...like maybe I'm switching to Canon...
Ooh, did I just hear Unca Raymee fall off his chair? ;-) |
