Last December I ordered the Dell 27" that I was going to plug into my laptop and use this as my editing setup.
Decided that I would eventually want another desktop so I purchased an 27" imac instead and cancelled the Dell order.
Looooove this monitor. Still getting a handle on this operating system but the monitor is awesome.
Haven't found a need to calibrate it.
It's close enough in colour to where I get my images printed so I'm happy to leave it as is.

How about a 27", 2560x1440, quality IPS for around $300?

More here

Speaking from personal experience, I agree 100% with what he says.

Sadly, my much loved HP LP2475W just died. Most of the monitors listed in this thread are no longer available. Anybody have any current suggestions for 24-27" IPS monitors that are good for photo editing? I don't care about speed, pretty much the only thing I do that will tax a monitor is photo editing.

Penny bought a 24-inch ASUS a few months ago that's working very well for editing.

So, after an afternoon of shopping on a really tiny laptop screen, I ended up with this 24" Asus, mostly because my employer stocks it and I'm able to get it tomorrow. I'll report back when it comes...

That's the monitor I use. How long did you have it before it died, and what happened to it?

Looks like basically the same one we have, you'll be happy with it.

It was several years old. It was a new model when I got it. It had recently been through several moves in a short period of time. It survived the move, but when I got a new pc, it worked for a week, then decided to not recognize when any cables were plugged into it.

On the menu options...it defaults to scanning all video input on power up, and it sounds like that function could now be defective. Did you happen to try setting the input manually and forcing it to look at say HDMI or DVI? A long shot, but taking the scan out of the equation, and telling it which input to use might work.
