Yup, over the top, extreme, and embarrassing. Which is why I said it was a "can you top this" proposal. Yaaay Hollyweird!
Bear, I'd might argue that the charming, intimate proposal in the OP has the potential to be just as embarrassing :-) |

So do I. In her place that's what I would have done. The whole thing was SO embarrassing. |
Does it make a difference that every single person on that island has known her all her life (or all their life, in the case of the kids) and that she undoubtedly knew her fiance would be popping the question soon, if not exactly then, and that HE undoubtedly knew she was of a mind to say yes?
Just curious. It certainly does from MY perspective, but maybe I'm weird. |
I didn't mean the video you posted. It's also embarrassing, but at least it's real.

Ah! I misread all that, from you and JH both :-) |

On an island of so few, it might be easy to marry your cousin, coincidentally, as it is in parts of Italy- I can say that, given that my family is from Provincia Avellino, Campania.
Just to clarify, I meant no insult, just emphasizing the point that it was a small island.

Me too! And I walked to the summit of Vesuvius on a misty day, in an overcoat. I remember it vividly. It was in 1958 :-) |

Wow, I didn't know that :)
Of course I didn't mean to be offensive with Southern Italy (I live in the South-centre) just pointing out some characteristics of different areas of my country and the fact that the song can't represent Italy as a whole being not sang in Italian.
Any chance to see you here someday in the future? :) |

My impression is that the proposal and the protagonists were real enough. Jordan chipped in with sponsorship and paint and expertise.
Thus the experience is cheapened, but not beyond redemption. |

Yes, if I'm lucky!!!
I have to say, I experienced many wonderful things in Italy (Tuscany, Rome, Venice, Naples, Amalfi): architecture, food, breathtaking landscapes, coffee, dessert, did I mention food? But not music. In fact, my only transcendent experience with Neapolitan music was a bunch of gay men doing a lewd version of the Macarena called the "Macarona" |
