I really enjoy picking up my WORST POSSIBLE gear and going out to shoot.
You'll notice entries from me using equipment from 2002 or so on occasion.
Absolutely nothing else will force you to work within limitations like that.
..
Also, I totally recommend building a camera or two - that's always educational. :D |

If ya need any input, I'll be glad to advise.
In fact, I think I'm about to buy another 600mm lens tomorrow. |

Stuff all this heavy camera gear, make sure you get the new Nokia with 41 MP. And to keep in touch with the traditionalists, build a pin-camera. Use those two instruments for the next 200 challenges and I bet you will really know how to use them well. |

And I do mean EVERYTHING. I've used my 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 for (in no particular order) wide-angle shots, portraits, weddings, all manner of horse shows, food, macros, landscapes, studio work, wildlife, astro, lightning, sunsets, street photography..damn it's a great all round lens! |
Gee, I always thought when that exercise was proposed it was to use a some prime lens exclusively -- I hardly think a range of 18-200mm qualifies it (functionally) as "one lens" -- the whole point of zoom lenses is to give one piece of hardware the functionality of several ... of course I got a camera with similar functionality (about twice the length of yours -- 36-432mm) just for that versatility, plus it has two macro modes which allow it to shoot very close-up. |
Actually I have been shooting quite a lot recently with the cheapest lens I have, which is also a prime lens, as I've wanted to ribbon or finish really high with an image captured by it. Have recently used the 50mm for studio, street, macro, food, portrait, people...most of my entries this year were taken with it. |

Several times I've read the title as "threat to make sempermarine a better photographer". |
