From a Wisconsin DNR study on CWD in fawns in an area with a lot of CWD: "However, we found that the percentage of fawns infected with CWD is very low, in the area of 0.14 percent." So the refuge may have felt the risk was low enough to take in this fawn.
Plus, the fawn actually came from Illinois in the first place. Illinois doesn't have the same deer management laws and allows wildlife rehabbers to work with deer. I'm guessing the people who took the fawn to the shelter paid more attention to the "no-kill" policy of the shelter than the various state laws relating to deer management. Bet they'll NEVER do it again.
And apparently a similar situation occurred in 2011. But that fawn was pardoned by the Governor. This was wasn't so lucky. |

How do you think they found the deer in the first place? Deer is one of the code words that the NSA ferrets (no NSA I do not have a ferret, no raid needed), out to find evil doers. (Evil Doers use the code DEER for Do Evil, Everyone Ready?). They thought they were harboring a terrorist in that barn. So after all that, well they just had to kill something.... |
