Looks great. Best of luck in the contest. |

Honestly, it looks amazing, super tough - my only nitpick would be that the border width changes - but that's only personal preference - since it turned out exactly as you envisioned, then win or lose, this was a victory.

i think its more important to take into account the viewing distance than the dpi, and at 88 i wonder if you will be just fine. |
Not really a good analogy. I don't know anybody who watches a large TV up close. That's not the case with artwork. Unless you physically prevent people from viewing it up close they will. If your work focuses more on perfection and execution those strokes up close will matter. |

True, but it's equally as bad of an analogy because of that beautiful thing called bleed. Inks don't make crisp edges like pixels do, so there's a bit of compensation here that is inherent to prints.
Oh, and I use a 55" Sony Bravia as a monitor - so you actually do know someone who watches a 'TV' that large up close. I'm typically 1-2 feet from it. |

Good luck Jason! That is a dynamite image and it must look incredible at large size. |

This must explain your eccentric eye wear. |

Hey, that looks pretty bad ass Jason! As you know, I wasn't too sure about this frame by raw aluminum thing (almost raw as I think it still has a coating), but it looks great and all the standoffs with the chain make it look really tough. Well done! I'm sure Matt at the print shop would want to see the final result, it must have been some work on their part getting all those holes drilled out.
Good luck! :) |

Thanks for the well wishing guys. I went with the strategy of, "go big or go home". Oregon is known for their flashy uniforms, etc so I thought that would be the way to go versus traditional and understated. I'm curious to see what else gets entered. This is an "art" contest and the only limitations are size (I went with as big as possible) and that it can be framed and hung. I'm guessing my photograph is going to be an anomaly alongside paintings and sketches. I hope I there is some bright light where they are judging because it looks much better that way.

Well in that case dont hang it. Just get two nose tackles/offensive guards hold your picture. For an added touch, have them stand on a husky rug.

So here I stand in my Superman suit
And everybody says I'm cute
I try to tell them but they would not see
And they hang their hats and coats on me
Well, a job's a job
But if I had my preference ...
I'd rather be Batman

So, are they changing uniform designs again this year? |

That's what happens when Nike foots the bill. Oregon is Nike's house team :-) |

They wore different uniforms every week last year. I can't remember what number of combinations they have (I just looked it up and the number varies from 384 to 512. Bear is right. It's all on Nike's dime. The U of O athletic facilities are literally better than some NFL teams, but that is on Phil Knight's dime. |

jason, i really hope you win. i just got this week's copy of Sports Illustrated and Leading Off (their three double-truck opener) featured the new hatfield-dowlin complex. if anybody at that school ever told me they don't have money to pay for art, i'd never go back... |

Here\'s a story on where Sneezy\'s art will hang when he wins. Be prepared to either A. Be awed, or B. Puke at the extravagance of spending this kind of money to pamper a football team while avctual learning pursuits at every level are being cut due to lack of funds. |

Skip, thanks for your thoughts! Alas, I came in 7th when only the top five finished in the money. I was the only photograph to make the first cut which feels nice. One of the judges said he could \"see this in his house\" (but nothing came of it). I\'m happy with how it went and now I have a very impressive piece hanging in my dining room.
Bear, maybe it will make you feel a little better to know the University isn\'t paying a dime. This is all on Uncle Phil\'s tab. Oregon is one of the few football programs that makes so much money they can\'t even hide the fact with creative accounting (which is standard). That money goes back into the University system.
Still, the entire facilities are literally world class and jaw dropping in their opulence. I can definitely understand how it might make one wonder where our priorities are. |

Not to mention that football coaches are routinely paid about five times the salary of the University President ... |

If generating revenue is the goal, start a marijuana farm :-) I'm well aware of the economics of it BTW, and I'm actually not fingering the university as much as I am Phil Knight, who I wish might spend this money on academic enhancements. Though, to be fair, for all I know he does that too.... |

Not (yet) in Oregon ... you need to move one state north or south ...

...and a glimpse it was, Jason.
Coming in seventh when the money was up to six places. Must have stung a bit.
I came away from that video with the feeling that - wow, they can afford all that money for football
and a contest, and couldn't even find enough money/props to get the entries off the floor!
For goodness sake, how much to easels cost, anyhow!
Anyhow, congratulations on almost placing. You have plenty of bragging rights without having to
pose with the Duck. |
