I think, maybe today? You have to tell me though, I fail to understand these shots.

Really Cory, my aim is to have a challenge or side challenge for those interested in creativity inspired by Gowin, regardless if they emulate or create something different. It is not my intention to convince those who don't want to do it, or have whatever objection in whatever form or manner possible. The incessant and inane juvenile chatter is truly obnoxious. You have indicated at the start, as many others have, that you don't like it, get it, want it, see it, or believe in a challenge like this. Avert your eyes, close your mind, fail to understand, that's your right to do so. If it comes to a challenge, sit it out and don't vote. You have a lot of good qualities but you swamping the forums is not one of them.

Juvenile ehh? Grab a mirror bud.

I was genuinely curious, and even though I may not 'get it' doesn't mean I'm not interested.

Frankly, I'm all the MORE interested because I don't get it.. Don's choices often hold a real fascination for me, as did the recent juried results of the art challenge. It's much easier to find something I get 'boring', and much easier to find something I don't get at all as fascinating, it's a glimpse into a totally different set of aesthetics.

ETA: I was actually hoping you'd find that picture interesting, and it DID fucking seem to me like it might fit the challenge... Why you have to respond in the way you did is beyond me, I get it, you don't like me.... Here's a newsflash dude, whatever your reasons, get over it, or just drop it, since I really don't give a damn what you happen to think about me. If you like me, then you like me, if you don't, then you don't. I have no intention of changing my habits because it bothers one or two people. If SC asks me to change my behavior, I will be glad to comply with their request, perhaps next time, you should simply write to them if you object to what I post here.

John, leave it to you to put a good conversation piece on the table. I love this idea but have no idea how to go about such a task. I found the images quite fascinating though as I never knew what to expect from one image to the next. Not entirely comfortable...but thanks for making the point that I need to get up from the photographic sofa.

I enjoyed looking at his photos, his people/folk. That part of his work seemed like a meditation, a stop time. Reminded me of Andy Wyeth's Christina's world: although the superficial resemblance is superficial, the engagement is similar.

I can't speak intellectually about what I feel here Emmet Gowin. But when I saw that photo I was immediately reminded of nick_hinch. I went looking for the specific photo that came to mind but instead found this which, to my senses is also very similar.
I would love to have a challenge in this style but it needs time.. months maybe. In the interview Gowin, relates "So, travels in Italy, travels in Ireland—I made only one good picture that year". I can't imagine having that much patience.

Paul ubique quoted Gowin "Photography is a tool for dealing with things everybody knows about but isn't attending to. My photographs are intended to represent something you don't see." I do think that's the essence of this artist's works.

No kidding! Perfect example.

I may have missed the moment on this, but I want to remind EVERYONE to please be respectful in the forums and report abuse to SC. We do our utmost to help, but things get messy when matters go vigilante instead of through appropriate reporting channels.
