I've been wanting to visit the Trans-Allegany Lunatic Asylum since I found out about it. It's about an hour and a half away and they have photography tours where you get a semi guided non historical tour and are able to explore the grounds and other areas that are restricted during the regular tours.

There is a morning tour and an evening tour, each $100; or both tours for $150. I'm thinking that it would be awesome to visit this place!

If anyone would like more info on it, here's the link: Lunatic Asylum

Perhaps a GTG in the making?

They have two left this year: September 8th and November 3rd.

Sounds like a very cool photo op... but when I read the thread title, I thought you were referring to DPC!

Thanks for posting this, it looks really interesting. Looks like 4.5 hours for me but I may have to look into it when I have a little extra cash. I am especially interested in the haunted house and photo tour.

I have such an interest in psychiatric history. It's so intriguing. It looked so awesome. I've been wanting to go for the last 2 years but have always missed the dates or have had other things going on. Hopefully I can make it this year. And if all goes like I want, the hubby and I will take a ride on the motorcycle out there. Make it a long weekend getaway. :)

Sounds romantic to me :) And I am certain my girlfriend would feel the same way. Alas we are both pretty disturbed though.

That IS romantic to me.
Flowers and candy and movies are nice... But this would be an AWESOME experience! It's not everyday you get to go somewhere like this (well, I guess for some it is).

Then again, many say I belong in an asylum. :P

add me to the "very romantic idea" side. sounds especially nice if you can ride out there. if you go definitely do the ghost hunt.

fear. the gift that keeps on giving. especially random nights at 3am.

Well, you were soliciting ideas for getaways...

Well Mike is from Jersey so he probably would rather get away from the crazies on a getaway. :)

I like the idea! It's four hours for me, but sounds like well worth the drive.
