I'm going to do this sometime! (photograph it, not sit in the water and catch salmon. :)

brown bear and salmon cam

So if I'm doing the ultimate Alaska photography experience -- where do I go and what do I do? (starting with bears and salmon, what's the absolutely best place for photographing it?) What time of year? What else do I do? Where else do I go?

Just watched a bear grab a salmon on the live cam. Awesome!
Thanks for sharing the link. :)

Also, I want to visit Alaska at some point. My husband said its beautiful (he went with the Army many years ago. Said its his favorite place in the world).

Did you see the osprey nest on the same site? The bears are amazing too.

To photograph a bear, you must become a bear...

July And August are best at the Brooks Falls. You cannot just go there however. Alaska does a random lottery drawing for the permits to get to go. You have to pay to be in the lottery. I tried to get a permit when I lived in AK but only won a stand by permit which means you can pay to let them fly you in, but you have to sit in camp and see if anyone doesn't show, or gets too sick or too chicken to go to the falls area.
There are so many streams and rivers in AK that you could just go there, and drive down to Homer. They have a group there that you can pay to fly you to an area not far from the Brooks falls.

Watched an eagle grab a salmon out of the Kenai river this afternoon. Alaska is an amazing place for sure! We spotted bear scat but no bears today. So it would seem that Mid-July would be perfect here. :)
