Wow! I'm impressed...so many outstanding entries in this challenge.
My own starting of with a very average score.

A little disappointed...figured it would be a little higher mid fives or so. I wish there were some comments so I could know what was not liked about it.

I sometimes get the idea that many people on DPC vote judging only by the eye candy method and also without taking into consideration whether the challenge theme is being met. Very often they don't look further then that, also other things like the technical difficulty factor often get overlooked and so an image which might not have instant eye candy appeal but might have some degree of technical difficulty and is well executed often gets scored low. Weird thing is that I posted my entry image on another well known photographic site as well and in the space of only 5 hours it has received 9 comments all saying things like stunning shot, beautiful, great execution, lovely image, very nice, very good and well done.
Here at DPC my image has received only 1 comment. The score started at 5.7500 after 4 votes, then rose to 6.3000 after 8 votes and now has dropped to 5.4500 after 20 votes.

Just saying ;)

I see a lot of very nice entries that fit the theme very well, in other words the two elements light and shadow vie with each other for attention. At the same time there are also quite a number of other entries which are very beautiful in their own right and have lovely light and shadows but yet these shadows and the light do not vie with each other for attention. They are present but in in a subdued , non-obtrusive way without either of the two trying to get the viewers attention. When voting please remember that the theme's requirement was that light and shadow vie with each other for attention.

One of those scores you are afraid to talk about LOL - at least for me! Remember, I get really excited when I get in the tiny violin range :)

I agree as well, and I'm trying to figure out if people just think mine is DNMC although clearly it DMC.

3 nice comments already.

A couple of twos, and threes, but also quite a few 7's and 8's, anyway no point getting upset about it, can't dominate the front page always, LOL! But I've lost count how may times I've gone over 6.00 and then below 6.00, and it's not gradual but with a sudden bolt of lightning!

What one considers eye candy is blah to someone else.
What one feels DMC is DNMC to someone else.
Even if an entry is DMC, if they "who are out there to vote" don't like it, it doesn't matter what work or effort you've put in it.
And sometimes things can go so fast to the opposite direction...

At vote 7 my score was 6,5714
At vote 18 only 5,8889 remains of it.

Too soon to tell how it will end and, as Anita says: there's no point in getting upset.
They like it, or they don't and you can't do a thing about it.

Actually, sometimes it's just low voters in general --

at 9 votes I was around 7.28

at 20 it was around 6.5. At this point, it was one 3 and one 4 that dropped it .7 -- you just have to wait until things even out. There are huge swings in the beginning. And this is obviously a challenge that has widely varying viewpoints (as you can tell from the entries.)

So this is one of those challenges where it's best not to watch the scores too closely, or it could be quite painful. :)
