I'm not really sure where to look for this - are there any new Digital SLR's coming out other than the Minolta? Meaning, are there going to be updates of the Canon and Nikon SLR's (like the Rebel), in the upcoming months, that would drive the prices of the current ones down??
Not sure if i should wait 6 months or buy my Rebel NOW |

Of course there are--there will always be new and updated versions of all cameras coming out--especially SLRs. What does that have to do with whether or not you should buy a camera now? If you wait "until the next one..." you will never buy one!

haha yeah you're totaly right. I just know there's no way I can buy one right now, it would be great if it went down like 200-300 bucks, like, tomorrow. lol. |

Olympus: Consumer version of E-1 in autumn, another Pro next year.
Canon: Maybe replacement on 10D, still just a rumour.
Nikon: D2H, could be the rumoured "F6" with interchangeable film/digital backs.
Thats all I've heard.

Ok, maybe you will never buy one. :-)
But seriously, the rumor mill says that Nikon will release a D2X, and Canon MIGHT release an updated 10D, possibly at Photokina in Sept. I don't see the Digital Rebel going much lower than $899 anytime soon. |

There will be a new 10D this year, it could be the end of this month or december. The Marketing Manager of Canon USA said that the 10D would last well into 2004. But with the feature rich Nikon D70 at an impressive pricelevel the next medium Canon dSLR might be announced soon with a pricedrop for the 300D. Some people also think that Canon will come with a 1.3 crop 8mpx polycarbonate new Canon 3D.
There will be a new Canon 1Ds at Photokina in September.
There will be a Fuji S3 at Photokina and there might be a Fuji Sxxx 4/3" Rebel.
The Epson 1.5x crop rangefinder Leica mount will be available in a few months, but waaaaaaaaaaayyyy tooooooo expensive.
Olympus is suspected of commin' up with a consumer E-1 (that means a bit slower and not environmentally sealed).
The Kodak SLR/c should be available by now.
Nikon still has to come with an answer to the 1Ds. A 2Dx 12mp 1.5x is expected, but Nikon might have to abandon DX sensors for their pro line and go 35mm full frame. There seem to be a lot of PG's switching to Canon's 1D / 1D Mk2 and 1Ds at this moment. This could be dealt with by the Nikon F/Dxxxx, a camera body that leaves room for several interchangeable digital and film backs. It was expected before the Olympics with a choise of Nikon/Fuji and Kodak APS and full frame sensor backs + eqv. mirror/prism combo's + eqv. AF & metering systems.
Minolta will come with their dSLR, but if Minolta use the Sony 6mp APS sensor the new camera might be dead on arrival.
More important: What new lenses will the manufacturers come up with?
Nikon needs to make more affordable AF-S and VR lenses whereas Canon need to address their wideangle zoom problem (no 12mm-xx digital lens), only a very expensive 16-35 and a relatively slow but affordable 17-40.
Olympus need to extend their 4/3 line pronto and Pentax just needs to make better glass and better adjust to digital.
I say, shoot what you can shoot now, with whatever you are using. We live in interesting times.
