Isn't that where the expression, "salty language" came from?

Yes. If I hadn't already been a heavy user of expletives, cigarettes and alcohol since I was 12 or 13, I may not have felt at home during my ten years in the Navy. Back then, they reinforced the stereotypes. Maybe notsomuch in today's politically correct (and gender-mixed) armed forces.
