I have to shoot a videoclip for an oil company and one of the things I have to show is one of their units (something about its safety). I'd like to create a panorama image moving around the unit. It's something I've never done and I have no idea if simply taking a series of pictures around it can work to create a 360°. Of course it would not be a real panorama but only a projection I can use to move my virtual camera during editing (like when you move in virtual rooms of hotels, museum and stuff like that). Any advice?

Are you taling about shooting inside? I'm not sure how a 360° from the outside would work unless you wrap it around a barrel or something ...

The problem with moving around to shoot the panels to stitch is that it is almost impossible to take all of the pictures from exactly the same distance and angle so that the images will line up for stitching without using a rolling camera dolly, preferably on tracks. A tripod and tape measure (or something to give you a fixed distance from the subject for every shot) would seem essential.
